HORSE SLAUGHTER BACK IN THE U.S.!!!!

Last week, the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee voted to bring back horse slaughter in the United States!!!!  Yes, believe it or not - this is sad but true!!!!
From the ASPCA, " The most important moment after a vote is right now. Before they forget and move on. Please, take a moment to scan the list below to find your member of Congress and check how they voted.

Voted Yes: Roybal-Allard, Dent, Bishop, Wasserman Schultz, Kaptur, Lee, Aguilar, Cartwright, Joyce, Kilmer, Lowey, McCullom, Meng, Pingree, Pocan, Price, Quigley, Rooney, Ryan, Serrano, Visclosky, Yoder, Ruppersberger, Clark, Delauro

Voted No: Amodei, Cole, Aderholt, Calvert, Carter, Cuellar, Culberson, Diaz-Balart, Frelinghuysen, Fleischmann, Fortenberry, Granger, Graves, Herrera-Beutler, Jenkins, Moolenaar, Newhouse, Palazzo, Robey, Rogers, Simpson, Stewart, Taylor, Valadao, Womak, Young, Harris

If they voted yes, please immediately shoot them a thank you email and make a call to their office to let them know that their loyalty for horse welfare has not gone unnoticed and we honor their stand.

If they voted no, please immediately send them an email expressing your dismay and shock that they would support the use of our precious tax dollars on slaughtering horses. And ask them to explain what motivated their vote. It is important to be polite, as frustrating as it is. They will have this issue come before them again so this is our chance to understand what happened."

YOU can help stop horse slaughter plants from ramping up and re-opening!!!! Contact your Senators and let them know how you feel.  If you agree that horse slaughter is cruel, not an accepted practice in the United States, and not an area where you want your valuable tax dollars to be spent, then contact your Senator and let her/him know to vote in favor of defunding USDA meat inspectors for horse slaughter plants in the United States!   They will be voting on this issue this week!!!!

EQUINE LEGACY RANCH WILD HORSE SANCTUARY
For those who have been following the news out of the Reno, Nevada area, you know about the many wild fires that have burned a record number of acres of our high desert wilderness as well as threatening homes, property, and livestock.

On July 4th, a wild fire broke out just north of Reno/Sparks at Pyramid Highway and Winnemucca Ranch Road - human caused by fireworks.  It took several days for the valiant fire fighters to gain control of it but not before it charred over 4,800.  Some of the land sacrificed included approximately 70% of the new Equine Legacy Ranch Wild Horse Sanctuary!!!!

While we are all heart broken and saddened by this terrible loss, we are also grateful and relieved that none of our beautiful rescued wild horses were on the property!  We didn't lose any buildings!  No fences were damaged!  The well is secure and intact! And no one got hurt!!!

The fire took many very old trees, sagebrush, and grass.  We have much clean up and restoration before us.  If you're interested in helping with this and many other projects needed to build our sanctuary, contact us at:
