Zig Zag Formation successes

We have been so proud of all our formation teams this season. As their teacher I feel so lucky to be able to teach the nicest group of kids who are hardworking and trust my crazy ideas!

We are of course proud of all our teams but some highlights of the formation season were our Shindler's List team making the Open United Kingdom Formation final and being the only ballroom team!

Our under 8's Madagascar team smashed it and finished in a fantastic 5th place and made their first Open Worlds final while being one of the youngest teams in the competition!

Formation Auditions are ongoing until Saturday 8th July Don't miss it and come along to become a part of one of the Country's most successful schools!

Wedding Dances

Don't forget that a wedding dance will complete your day. Standing there just rocking from side to side isn't really going to cut it so give us a call and we can suggest music, help you with cutting your track, will teach you how to dance (even those with two left feet,) and we will create a dance that you will never forget.

Medal Test Sunday 16th July!

The date has been set for Sunday, 16th July as detailed on the poster. Our medal tests are fun and enjoyable. It will give you a real sense of achievement and it's also a great confidence booster. Have a word with your teacher to discuss which medal to take and get your place reserved. We are aiming to have a timetable from approx 3pm onwards on the day.

Another Zig Zag favourite is 3 times British Champion Oliver Beardmore. Oliver teaches for us every weekend, he is an amazing choreographer and teacher of style and technique. He has also recently come off a very successful tour with Strictly stars Kai and Nadiya in their show "Once Upon A time". The Zig Zag team all went to support Oliver in his Shrewsbury Show with a total of 51 pupils going to see his show!

Zig Zag Latin Teacher Bonanza !

One of our newest Latin guest teachers is Australian Latin Champion Darren Morrissey. Darren is the Latin tornado and has been a big hit with our students with his crazy ideas and sense of humour!

Other News

Myself and Jane had the honour of judging at the Open Worlds at the beginning of May. This is a very famous competition run in the heart of Blackpool in the Blackpool Tower. It is a competition run by former World Latin Champion Paul Killick with couples coming to compete from all over the world. We had a great time, the standard was higher than ever which made all the judges jobs very difficult!

R.I.P Len Goodman

So very sad to hear that Len Goodman has passed away. Len was one of our coaches we went to towards the end of our competing career but he became one of the most influential people to me and massively coloured the way I teach today and the person I am. Len was actually a genius , not only as a choreographer but he was also an amazing teacher - he made me remember everything he taught me through his funny and crazy ways and I know now that was his plan.

R.I.P George Coad

It has been a sad couple months for the dance world with two legends passing within weeks of one another. We as a family have a lot to be thankful for George’s input into our lives. He was also one of our coaches when we were competitors and he was instrumental in the start of our daughters journey into the dancing world. RIP George... dance with the stars.

Baby Leo!

However, we do also have some very lovely news! Alicia and Yuriy have welcomed a beautiful baby boy called Leo James Markovetskiy!

Born on the 30th March weighing 7lbs 11. We couldn't be more proud and happy to welcome the new addition to the Zig Zag family and become Grandma and Grandad!

Graham and Tina

Zig Zag pupils Graham and Tina achieved a brilliant 4th place at the European Over 50's championships in April making it their biggest achievement to date. They even placed 2nd in the Foxtrot in what was a really tough competition with couples coming to compete from all over the World... amazing!

India

India is currently looking for a new dance partner after the unfortunate situation with the Russian/Ukranian War stopped her and her partner Vlad from dancing together due to visa problems. India is doing her best to stay positive and is keeping up her own training in order to pass on her knowledge to our students and be ready for when the right partner comes along. She can be seen here training with former World Champion Sergui Rusu.

Our children's classes are booming and its so lovely to see the kids enjoying themselves and laughing again. Dance is good for them mentally and physically. If you are looking to keep your children busy during the summer holidays why not bring them along to one of our classes? Check our timetable for the nearest class on our website: http://www.zigzagdance.co.uk/
