WELCOMING NEW STAFF & SAYING "GOODBYE"

Over the past several months, the Science Center has seen a number of staff transitions. In the spring, we welcomed Linnea Ronnegard to fill the post of finance director. A long-time resident of Cordova, who returned to town after several years outside Alaska, we are grateful to have her energy and expertise guiding our finance department.

In July, Ginger Drake, our bookkeeper of four years, moved to Washington with her partner Scott to be closer to family. Becca Dodge (former Science Center bookkeeper from 1995-2001) has returned to fill the position. We are happy to have her back!

Tyler Quiring, administrative assistant, will be departing at the end of the month. She and her partner Eli and their dog Cedar will be settling down in Seward to be closer to her family.

Lastly, as summer wraps up, so must a couple of summer internships. Lori Galluppo of Florida, our environmnetal education intern, assisted Lauren Bien with all the summer programs, which you can read more about below! Lindsay Phillips, life-long Cordovan, was our part-time social media intern. She tagged along on education programs and interviewed researchers to create and share stories about the Science Center. She leaves soon for a semester abroad in Rome.

We thank all of our departing staff for their time, energy, and warm smiles!
REFLECTING ON SUMMER EDUCATION PROGRAMS

This is our final week of summer education programs, and  Science Education Coordinator Lauren Bien is leading  a group of middle school students on their  explorations of local ecosystems.

Rain, wind, and shine, they are getting first-hand experience with the ecology of wetlands, temperate rainforests, oceans, and glaciers.  Not a bad way to end the summer before another school year begins!

Three separate crews will be collecting salmon data every day for a total of seven weeks. Five different streams in the southwest region of Prince William Sound will be targeted.

Our first crew members departed last weekend after a week of training in Cordova. Learn  more about what our crew members will be doing in the field  here .
