News Update #1: Summer 2022

Welcome to the first Newsletter from Arts for Health MK!

Current Temporary Exhibition at

Milton Keynes University Hospital:

'On Reflection' by David H Jones

The current temporary exhibition by David H Jones presents richly textured paintings inspired by Impressionist Claude Monet's paintings at Giverny and the energising and nourishing properties of colour. Available for hospital staff and patients to enjoy, the paintings may also be viewed by everyone else on our website.

Hospital Art Collection:

Peter Randall-Page sculpture given a spring clean

'After the Winter' by distinguished artist Peter Randall-Page has been located in one of the 'Creative Courtyards' ever since 1981 when it was purchased from the artist for the new hospital. Made of Carrara marble, it had become badly weathered, so we've had it cleaned by art conservation specialists. Peter says, "I'm delighted to see it looking so pristine after it's recent expert cleaning."

Hosting an Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) Student

Anya Amrith is undertaking a Masters in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy. Since January she has been working with two of our clients to deliver art psychotherapy sessions. They have been very well received and a further two clients have started with her in May.

Partnership Projects:

Exploring Identities

Between January and April, we partnered with Milton Keynes Arts Centre and The Parks Trust to deliver 'Exploring Identities' a twelve-week creative wellbeing programme for young people aged 12–17 years. Participants explored themes of identity during relaxed, artist-led workshops.

MKUH Art Collection appears in

MK City Status Bid

It's wonderful news that Milton Keynes was granted city status in the recent Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours Competition. We congratulate everyone involved in the successful bid! Naturally we were delighted to see that the Hospital’s Art Collection which we curate appeared in the bid, being noted as the “largest art gallery in MK” with over 200 works.
