Another Private Secondary School Selects edHEALTH

On June 1, Wilbraham & Monson Academy (WMA) became edHEALTH's 28th member-owner school, and our second private secondary school in the coalition. When asked why WMA joined edHEALTH, WMA's Chief Financial Officer Patricia Gallagher noted: “When I came onboard WMA last July and learned of our healthcare needs, I immediately thought of edHEALTH. I previously worked at a founding member school and kept track of edHEALTH’s growth through the years. When I saw edHEALTH was growing in the secondary school space, I knew that WMA would fit well within their member-owned collaborative model.”

The team is thrilled to be partnering with WMA, and working again with Patty Gallagher.

In addition to each member-owner schools' high-cost claimant reports, schools will find the presentation deck and pdfs of flyers shared at the June edHEALTH annual meeting. For instance, if you would like to share a pdf of the programs we introduced in 2024, including administrative services, dental insurance, and a diabetes management program, you will find them in the portal. You will also find the HEDIS-related flyers, wellness tips, and behavioral health resource templates. Once in the portal, go to the Data Repository & Communications section (under Public). Have questions on how these flyers can work for your school? Please contact Lisa Barnstein at lbarnstein@edrisk.org.

Summary Safety Downloadable Resources

While we all want to have some fun during the summer months, it's important that children and adults ensure personal safety while outdoors. Here are two resources with helpful content to include in your summer newsletters, emails or intranet sites. You can use them as standalone flyers or pull parts of the information for your communications.

Highlights from our 2024 Member-Owner Annual Meeting

The feedback is in! Another informative, productive, and rewarding annual meeting is complete. Thanks to all the member-owners, advisors, and business partners who spent the day with us in Dover, Massachusetts. (We always appreciate the positive feedback from the surveys and shared throughout the day.)

Here, we highlight a few of the day's favorite moments and updates. For member-owners who missed the meeting, the full slide deck is in the portal. You can also reach out to any of the edHEALTH team for an overview.

Giving Back to Member-Owners, Dividend-style

One of the most rewarding parts of the meeting, literally and figuratively, was presenting 14 edHEALTH member-owners with a dividend check. In total, we gave back $3.5 million, which brought big smiles to edHEALTH's Chair of the Boards, Stephen Hannabury, and President and CEO, Tracy Hassett, throughout the annual meeting.

The ability to distribute dividends demonstrates our commitment to helping member-owner schools save money on their health insurance costs whenever possible.

2023 Annual Report Distributed at the Member-Owner Meeting

This year's meeting attendees were the first to receive our 2023 annual report. In it, you can read about our strength as a coalition dedicated to helping educational institutions save money on their employees' health insurance. You can read our report here.

Lunch and Learn Introduces New Ideas for 2024 and Beyond

Before the annual meeting officially kicked off, staff from edHEALTH member-owner schools participated in an activity that involved sharing their thoughts, ideas, and challenges on specific topics that they raised as areas of interest earlier in the year. Topics included everything from more collaboration between human resources and finance to prescription drug and medical trends, and employee communications.

With six tables consisting of individuals from various schools, the timed five-minute conversations flew by. The session presented new considerations and approaches and offered excellent insights into what edHEALTH can do next to support member-owner schools on the healthcare cost-control and communications front.

These conversations are the first steps toward what may be next for edHEALTH.

Ben Hammond from The Lawrenceville School Joins edHEALTH Boards

With the addition of two new secondary schools to edHEALTH, Ben Hammond, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer from The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, has been elected to edHEALTH's Board of Managers and Subscribers Advisory Committee.

Steve Hannabury, Chair of our Boards, explains, "Now that edHEALTH has expanded to include private secondary schools, we want to ensure that their specific needs are being addressed. That is why we invited Ben to join our Boards. His knowledge of educational institutions is extensive, and his experience will support edHEALTH's strategic direction while also providing fiduciary oversight to edHEALTH LLC and edHEALTH Captive."

Before Lawrenceville, Hammond was Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer at Wellesley College, a founding member-owner edHEALTH school. He played a key role during the early years of edHEALTH. We're both proud and excited to collaborate with Ben again.

Take Five with Our Employees

This month, we wrap up our Meet the Team series by featuring edHEALTH's president and CEO, the smart, strategic, and supportive Tracy Hassett. Before you listen to her recent interview for the Global Captive Podcast, get to know her a little better here first.

1) What's your role at edHEALTH, and since when? I became edHEALTH’s first employee, President and CEO on September 1, 2015, but that wasn’t the beginning for me. I was part of the team that helped create edHEALTH while I was the CHRO at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where I was for 18+ years. In my role as edHEALTH’s President, I am charged with setting strategy and oversight of all functions, and I have the privilege of working with the incredible member-owners, prospective member-owners, the staff, the board, and our business partners.

2) Favorite part of the job? I often say that I have the best job in the world. My favorite part is meeting with our current and prospective member-owners to share the story about how edHEALTH started, our successes to date, and learning from our member-owners what is important to them so that we can continue to fine-tune our program and create more collaborative opportunities; it’s all about having a relationship with each member-owner and making sure they feel heard and that we are always striving to do more for them.

3) Will you share one 2024 goal – professional or personal? I’d like to make more time for self-reflection, both personal and professional. It seems I am always moving towards “the next big thing” rather than taking some time to look back, celebrate and think about what I could/should have done differently or better.

4) What's a favorite quote or words

shared with you? Since I was a little girl, my dad has always taught me that “misery is optional” and those are words that I live by. I recently learned that this is part of a quote by Tim Hansel.

5) Chocolate or vanilla? Why choose?!?! But if I must, chocolate 😊
