Joyce Preschool Mission Opportunity
Thursday, August 11

HAUMC's Lydia Circle is a longtime supporter of the Joyce Preschool at 3400 Park Avenue.  The school  provides children from diverse ethnic, linguistic, and economic backgrounds with developmentally and culturally appropriate preparation for success in school and lifelong learning.  On Thursday, August 11, several of us will be helping them get ready for the new school year by organizing  supplies, painting, washing walls and windows, assembling extra copies of required forms, and working in the garden. If you would like to join us, please contact Janet Jacobs (janetsjacobs@hotmail.com) for more information. This is a great service opportunity for teens as well as adults.

The Courage to Create:  An Art & Spirit Retreat
August 14-16, 2016

These are times that call for great creativity. During this retreat, we will join singer-songwriter Barbara McAfee as we take our 'one small voice' and join with others to sing hope into the world carrying our music to the fields, onto the beach and into the chapel. Glenda Huston, SoulCollage facilitator will lead us in taking the small pieces to create a way of nurturing and supporting our soul in these days. And Bill Mathis will instruct us in the art of creative bell ringing...holding onto and sounding our one note to make something more beautiful together. All this in the beauty of Koinonia Retreat Center, on the shores of Lake Sylvia.

Wanted: People Who Can Sew

Calling all sewers! Hennepin's UMCOR Sager Brown Partnership has purchased school supplies for 400 school kits and members are taking advantage of back-to- school sales to donate even more items daily. Now bags are needed in order to complete the UMCOR school kits that will provide tools for learning for 400+ children around the world who have survived disaster.

Do you have a sewing machine or serger? Willing to sew a bundle of precut bags over the next several months? The need for sewers is especially great this year in the absence of the chief sewer of previous years.

Contact Janelle Vaubel at 952-922- 3449 or e-mail cjvaubel@yahoo.com for precut bags and a finished sample.
