A Note of Thanks to all the "Call-Up Choir" Singers

Hello, Fine People –

Yesterday, I wanted to stop the service for a moment to take time to thank all of you who always step forward to make the “call-up choir” a special moment in the service hour. As you sang yesterday, I was feeling so blessed and there were so many of you! I wish I could have hugged all of you as a way to show my appreciation, and not just for me, but also for all who got to watch and hear as the old gospel classic was sung.

These old gospel songs we sing during summer months could be new to our younger generations who are not brought up hearing such wonderful tunes. I hope you read a little of the history of the music and lyrics and realize this music has stood the passing of time. Makes me wonder how much of what we hear today will still have a life a century and a half later as “The Little Brown Church in the Vale.”

I had a great time yesterday; I know our church congregants did, and I hope you as well did. I wish for you to know my appreciation for each Sunday where so many step forward to praise God through the singing of a very old hymn thereby lifting up our congregation in praise and thanksgiving for our heavenly Father and Son, Jesus Christ. You need to know what a blessing you have wrought and how meaningful the worship moment is by sharing your gift of singing a hymn.

Thank you, “Call-Up Choir” – Sincerely, Fred Wein…..

Many of you have spoken to me about joining Jathaniel and me at Mountain TOP October 3-6, 2024.

Registration is now open at The mission at Mountain TOP is to meet the physical, spiritual, social and emotional needs of the people we encounter.

During this October weekend we will be working with families to improve their homes for the coming winter. So while we do need others to swing the hammer, we also need folks to fulfill the other aspects of the mission. I hope you will consider joining us. Contact Bob Batson at 901-486-1876 or if you have questions or need more info.

Thursday, July 18th – 11:30am

Please join us for lunch, snow cones, or lunch and snow cones at Jerry’s in Cordova! We will meet there at 11:30am, or you can meet us at Covenant UMC at 11:15am to carpool. Jerry's Sno Cones, the cozy and iconic "burger shack" renowned for a multicolored menu of close to 100 varieties of ice cream-infused snow cones is located off Germantown Parkway in Cordova. Jerry's is known for its so-called "Supreme" snow cones, which add a generous swirl of soft-serve ice cream to the traditional snow cone recipe of shaved ice and flavored syrup. Hope to see you there!

Last year in September, we had a church-wide celebration to commemorate the recovery from the Great Christmas Flood of 2022. By all accounts, it was such an enjoyable experience for all. Several people remarked that we should do it again (excluding the flood part). So this year, I would like to start a new Covenant UMC tradition. That tradition is that we would celebrate Covenant Sunday every year (perhaps that last Sunday in August of every year). This year on August 25th, we will celebrate Covenant Sunday, a special, annual celebration of our congregation, our life, our ministry, and our future! We will have one combined worship service, followed by a *family* luncheon, which will include some celebratory presentations. Please, please, please, save this date to share it in person with your church family.

*family* an inclusive term that incorporates friends, ministry partners, and members of our church.

CUMC is teaming up with The United Way of the MidSouth, and 901 FC for their ‘Stuff The Bus Drive’ benefitting Memphis Shelby County Schools for the upcoming year.
