eNews: A Surge of Support

Convention watch party, Democratic Volunteer Center, Mountain View

What an amazing Democratic Convention!  Excitement, joy, hope and so much more.

We had four nights of speakers, starting with President Joe Biden who brought down the house on Monday. We will forever remember these words from his speech:

“It’s been the honor of my lifetime to serve as your president. I love the job, but I love my country more.”

Then on Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the nomination with a speech that was flawless,  presidential, and left no doubt which party champions the working class.

“We are not going back,” Harris said.

Now it’s up to us to help her make good on that promise.

Let’s flip  the House, and hold the Senate and the Presidency, so our government can finish the job Biden started.

Our nation cannot afford another four years of Trump.  As former President Obama said, “The sequel is usually worse.”

If you missed any of the convention speeches, you can find and stream them here.

A Gen Z Delegate’s Report on the Convention

The pandemic robbed Jason Park of attending the 2020 Democratic Convention in person. But this year, Park, who at 24 is the first Gen Zer from our state to be elected to the Democratic National Committee, made it to Chicago.

“Each day was more incredible than the last,” said Park, of San Jose.

Of course, Park thrilled to the same speeches we did watching from home. But he also met countless active members of the Democratic Party from all over the nation.

And he attended countless caucuses and councils, from the Black and Hispanic caucuses to the labor and climate change councils, so that once he returns home, he will be able to help members of the SCCDP forge the connections they need.

Park’s interest in politics was sparked by none other than SCCDP’s 2017 summer internship program!

A Surge of Support

In Santa Clara County, as across the country, Democrats are fired up.

It shows in hundreds of conversations over coffee occurring across our county, at the Democratic Volunteer Center in Palo Alto, and in SCCDP’s online volunteer signups.

At the Democratic Volunteer Center, a Thursday watch party drew 300 people who constantly erupted into cheers as Kamala Harris made her acceptance speech. People posed for Instagram photos. Campaign buttons, lawn signs and other swag for sale flew off the shelf.

At the SCCDP, our web site saw a record spike of 50 online volunteer signups in the three days after Biden ended his bid for re-election. Yet another 50 people signed up during the convention. Our teams are busy reaching back to these new volunteers to get them engaged.

For all this, it will be a close election, and we – all of us - need to push to not just win by a razor’s edge but by a solid margin, so Republicans cannot contest the results. Complete our form here to volunteer and use this link to donate. Or find your niche in one of these groups.

Do something!

Voting starts Oct. 7

All registered voters in the county will be mailed a Vote By Mail ballot starting Oct. 7. Early voting in person at the Registrar of Voters office, and collection of ballots from drop boxes, also starts on that date. Click here and here for more information.

Our Democratic Victory Dinner

It’s not too late to get tickets to our Democratic Victory Dinner on Friday, Sep.13 in the Imperial Ballroom of the Signia Hotel in San Jose. We’ve already sold over 340 tickets and we’re rapidly approaching our goal of 500 Democrats coming together for inspiration and support. Let’s continue to build energy and raise the money we’ll need to contribute fully to our campaign efforts, locally and at the national level.
