Dear Trinity Episcopal Church,

As our country prepares for our national election this November, Christians will also be discerning how to faithfully engage in this divisive political season. Therefore, I invite you to join me in the book, "Citizen: Faithful Discipleship in a Partisan World." The author is Bishop Doyle, the Bishop of the Diocese of Texas. It's available on Amazon for purchase, but the church can also purchase one for you.

Additionally, you are invited to join me for a discussion of the book on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm starting on September 11. We'll meet in the Kelso Room by the church office. For those of you who cannot make that time, we will also hold discussions on Sundays October 13 and 27 right after the 10:30 am worship service.

Finally, in order to continue serving the growing number of children and youth in our church, Trinity Church has brought on two new part-time staff members. First, Jackie Fields is our new Children's Minister. An experienced educator and a faithful disciple, Jackie will lead our Children's Sunday School and Children's Chapel on Sunday morning. Second, Annie Blancken will lead our youth ministries for students in middle school and high school, and will also relaunch the Episcopal Student Center, our ministry to students of higher education in Galveston. Please join me in welcoming both of these staff members to our team!

With peace and grace,

Jimmy

City of Galveston Office of Emergency Management

Island Alert Notification System

The City of Galveston is encouraging everyone to sign up for the city’s emergency notification system, Island Alert. Disasters can happen at any time, not just during hurricane season. It is important when disaster strikes that you are receiving accurate and reliable information to make decisions that are in the best interest of you and your family.

Island Alert allows the city to communicate with residents by sending alerts via telephone and text messages. During an emergency, the system delivers timely public-safety messages regarding issues such as inclement weather, evacuation notices and more. It is easy to set up an account, and once created multiple devices can be added to an individual account.

Text “GALVESTON” to 24639 to sign up for Island Alert or register online at https://www.galvestontx.gov/196/Emergency-Notification-System. If enrollees experience any problems call the Office of Emergency Management at 409-765-3710.
