Music is the literature of the heart.
It begins where speech ends.

Bluegrass Mass, Sunday beginning at 8:45 am
One of the most anticipated and cherished musical days of the year is this Sunday--our Bluegrass Mass. The music will include classic bluegrass songs–which has its roots in traditional English, Scottish and Irish ballads and dance music–plus a Bluegrass Mass setting by Mark Whitmire. This is a wonderful service to introduce your friends and neighbors to St. James’s. Even though this is a 9 am service, remember that the Prelude begins at 8:45 am.

A warm goodbye. A huge thank you!
So many of us didn’t get to properly say goodbye to Becky Page. Well, this Sunday is your chance. We’re throwing a farewell party between the morning services in the Memorial Garden and everyone is invited. There will be food and music (even a performance by the clergy), lots of warm wishes, a few laughs and maybe a tear or two. So make sure to be here at 10:15, which is right after the Bluegrass Mass.

Season of Unity
There are so many reasons to support St. James’s. The relationships you’ve started and sustained here. The spiritual growth you’ve experienced here. And the warmth and fellowship you feel here.
There are so many reasons to support St. James’s. Our creative and active Children’s & Youth Programs. Our thoughtful and robust Adult Learning program. Our unparalleled music program. Our beautiful sanctuary. Our committed and inspiring clergy. Our generous outreach and mission efforts. And our commitment to finding ways for every parishioner to feel closer to God.
There are so many reasons to support St. James’s. As you think about your pledge, think about the Church’s place in your life, in your heart and, most importantly, in your relationship with God.
Thank you.

The Taste of St. James’s
is Coming.
Pre-ordering starts Friday, Oct. 29.
The Taste of St. James’s is one of the great traditions of our church. Incredible food prepared by our most gifted culinary artists, then sold to support Food Force, our feeding ministry at St. James’s. The items for sales make great gifts--as long as you include yourself on the gift list. Our pre-order form will go live on Friday OCT. 29th and will be up until NOV. 11th.
Pre-orders will be available for pick up from St. James’s Michaux House Parking Lot (1133 W. Franklin Street) on Saturday, Nov. 20th or in-person in Valentine Hall, Sunday, Nov 21st-- just in time for Thanksgiving!

The TASTE of St. James’s is right around the corner--YAY! and we’re looking for folks who are makers and bakers.
The TASTE will feature four soups (recipes and containers provided), chicken pot pies (created by cooking groups) and a variety of delicious baked goods.
Additionally, we would love to feature special condiments, teas, sauces, etc. that any of you may have in your repertoire. Products will need to be delivered to the church on Thursday 11/18, or Friday, 11/19, prior to distribution on Saturday, 11/20.
Please email the 2021 chairs:
Sally Prillaman (sarahprillaman@ymail.com) with information regarding what you’d like to make or with any questions. Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

Adult Learning
There’s so much happening in our Adult Learning program. So many choices. So many days to attend. So many ideas to ponder. To see the full breadth of what’s being offered, go here or the Adult Learning section (under Learning) of doers.org.
Sunday Small Groups--Five choices every week.
Instead of a large lecture series, this October and November Adult Learning will be done in small groups hosted by lay leaders. There are five different classes to choose from each and every Sunday, covering a wide range of fascinating and provocative topics. To help us make sure each class doesn’t exceed the limit of 8 to 12 people, we’re asking folks to register here.
But you can also drop in on Sunday and if a class has room, you’re more than welcome to join in. Click here or on the image for in-depth descriptions of the topics.

People loved Sacred Ground. So we brought it back.
The powerful Sacred Ground series we held in the Spring was extremely popular, so we’ve brought it back this Fall. It’s a powerful 10-part film and readings-based series on race, grounded in faith. The series is especially designed to help white people talk about a very challenging subject--racism. Our small, lay-led groups will meet once or twice a month and together we’ll walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism.
Register for a Sacred Ground small group here.

The St. James’s Podcast is here.
St. James’s has launched a podcast called Be Ye Hearers, which will feature sermons from the St. James’s clergy. Over time, we may add other content, but for now we’ve observed that parishioners really want to hear the sermons, even when you can’t view or attend the service.
So go to Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Podcasts and search for Be Ye Hearers.
Happy listening!
