Clergy Reflection

I imagine you’ve figured out by now, that things don’t always go as you planned. You have your day mapped out, and a phone call changes everything. You have your career or job well in hand, and then a restructuring of your company leaves you packing up your office or desk in a box. A diagnosis demands you rethink and reorganize your life in a way you never imagined. A decision is made over which you have no control that nonetheless impacts you and those around you.

First Class of Third Graders Graduates from Redeemer's Day School

On June 3 our third graders entered The Church of the Redeemer as PDS students for the last time. After walking into Pomp & Circumstance, Mother O offered a blessing to open the service. We heard from student speaker, Jack Zohorsky, and Head of School, Mary Knott, whose reflections captured the spirit of our third grade and Redeemer community. Led by Katie Poe, the third graders performed, "I'm So Blessed," together for the last time. A few students received awards and a special "conference report memory" was read as each student received a diploma. The students were gifted copies of "The Phantom Toll Booth", and third grade teacher, Patty Barry, wished them well on their next adventure, especially in recognizing the joy in discovering the unknown. In true Redeemer style, the third graders ended the celebration by tossing their Redeemer red caps in the air. We are all so proud of their tremendous growth and accomplishments during their time at Redeemer and look forward to seeing them continue to blossom as they move onto new schools.

House Meeting Follow-up

Last fall we initiated gatherings of 6-8 people who agreed to commit to meeting with each other once a month, through May, facilitated by parishioners who are trained and supported by the clergy, following a simple agenda that includes some fellowship, food, and faithfulness. Seventeen (17!) groups formed in September/October and have been meeting monthly (roughly!) since then. House meeting participants are invited to gather for lunch in the parish hall at 11:30 a.m. on June 9 to share your experience. We also invite anyone who was not in a house meeting group this year but would like to join one in the fall to join us. Click here to sign-up.

News from Johnston Square Elementary

Volunteers from Redeemer enjoyed a beautiful day helping out at Field Day last Friday. We paired up with teachers at different activity stations for every Pre-K through fifth grade student. It was wonderful to see children of all ages with their teachers having fun and cheering on one another. While our regular school year has come to an end, there are opportunities for volunteering over the summer and next school year. We welcome anyone who likes kids and wants to strengthen our relationship with the Johnston Square community. Please contact Cathy Gearhart if you are interested!

The Y of Central Maryland is hosting a camp at Johnston Square this summer and will need people to read aloud every Monday through Thursday morning from 9:00- 9:30 starting June 24 and continuing through August 1. Click here to sign-up to help out.

Summer Sundays for Children

Children are invited to come to the narthex after the Gospel reading to meet a storyteller. They will gather in the courtyard for the story and return to the service in time for the offertory. Please contact Rebecca+ with any questions.

If you would like to register your child or children for the ’24-’25 Sunday School program year now you may do so here.
