Time for a Change - New Facebook Updates at F8

Immediately after the announcements Mallorie, from our team, wrote a recap of some of the things you will have to look forward to. The biggest announcement of the day was the changes to your profile. Your profile, now called a timeline, is a digital scrapbook of your life. The timeline is a personal way to share who you are to your friends. Another big change is the ticker. The ticker gives you second to second updates on everything your friends are doing. Every like, tag, and comment come through the ticker. Other notable changes include the music and movie integration that came from partnerships with companies like hulu, Netflix, and Spotify, the de-emphasis of the 'like' button, and the new look to application permissions. To learn more about the new updates in detail, read Mallorie's full post here.

With drastic changes to profiles, marketers need to know how the changes will affect them. The de-emphasis of the 'like' button may cause some marketers to rethink the way they promote their page. Jenna from our team was quoted in a recent Mashable article saying the "Like" is "a little less relevant now," and that marketers will have to work harder to earn their place in news feeds. Jenna continued by saying, "Your content is going to need to be absolutely amazing." Besides amazing content, marketers will now have to invest more in applications. Application integration into timelines is going to be a great way for businesses to connect with users. To read the full article from Mashable featuring Jenna and others click here.
