Hello Rick and Maria,

If you have ever attended a Zentangle class, you have probably taken part in the mosaic at the end of the class.

This is a time for everyone to come together and place their tiles down, side by side, for all to admire and appreciate. The Zentangle Mosaic shows us that we are all part of the bigger picture. When you look at a Zentangle Mosaic you see the value in each tile being unique. It is in the differences and the variety that we are able to appreciate the whole. If every tile were the same, the mosaic would feel boring or generic, but the subtle beauty and character in each stroke within each tile is what makes it a magical experience to view. There is also the story behind the tile that shines in a Mosaic. There is something so wonderful about seeing artwork that people created together. Perhaps following similar directions, or sitting alongside one another, sharing space and time. The energy in that is remarkable and to see each person's reflection of that experience is a beautiful thing.

This month, join us as we appreciate the magic that is the Zentangle Mosaic.

Mosaic Magic

Maria writes: I really had to think hard about this, as it has been 20 years that we have been teaching about the importance of the Mosaic. I could picture our first (public) class that Rick and I taught at an IAMPETH (a calligraphy organization) conference.

Exploring Mosaics

The mosaic is an integral part of the Zentangle process but there are some exercises that really let the mosaic shine. Over the years we have explored some of these through our blog, products and Zentangle Project Packs.

Bijou Be Well 2023

12 Days of 3Zs

Zentangle Project Pack No. 17

The Zentangle Shades Scarf was created when Molly designed a mosaic of her own artwork. The scarf features original artwork from Molly's tangled journal, artfully repeated again and again. Get lost in the layers of shadow and highlights as some of your favorite tangles come alive.

This 100% silk scarf measures 12" x 60" and features a hand rolled hem and is 30% off.

20th Anniversary Journal Prompt

Have you experienced the magic of the mosaic? Whether in a class with others or with your own tiles, the mosaic offers a moment for gratitude, appreciation and reflection.

Choose a spread in your journal and trace a tile repeatedly on a page, side by side. We recommend a Bijou or 3Z tile. Tangle each tile space, maybe with the same exercise in each tile or a composition that flows from one space to the next.

On the opposite page, reflect on your own mosaic experience.

Dear Maria, Rick, Martha and Molly,

As you know, I run have run a weekly online Zenjo Tangle Club for the last 4 years with members joining from all over the world.

In 2022 we pondered whether it would be possible for us to enlarge upon the concept of the Travelling Tile and the Travelling Opus Project was born.

Over the next 18 months, 43 tanglers from around the world contributed to these two Opus tiles, which travelled over 36,000miles in the UK, Europe, and USA!

This was an incredible achievement as we relied upon numerous postal and shipping organisations to ensure that these precious pieces of work did not get lost.

Zenjo Tangle Club offered these original artworks as prizes in a fundraising raffle to benefit their chosen charity Africa Youth Rising which is run by Mandie Case, daughter of CZT and Tangle Club member Connie Case.

We have created two unique Opus artworks and I am sure that you will love the amazing art and the story of the World's most Travelled Opus Tiles!!
