Hello Rick and Maria,

Whenever I talk to people who practice the Zentangle Method, most everyone agrees that the method is about so much more than just putting pen to paper. The philosophies behind the Zentangle Method are just as powerful as the benefits of creating beautiful art.
One of the greatest gifts I think that the Zentangle Method has to offer is the No Mistakes philosophy.
“No Mistakes” does not mean that mistakes or missteps do not happen, it is about how we handle those mistakes and missteps.
Recently, there was a situation in my life that did not go as planned. This “misstep” would affect many other aspects of my life. My husband asked me if I was okay with the situation and I replied, “I am trying to take a very Zentangle approach to this. This is not what I planned, but I am going adjust and be open to other opportunities that may present themselves that would not have if we were following the original plan.”
Although I have been practicing the Zentangle Method for over a decade, this perspective did not happen overnight and is always a work in progress. I have found that embracing the No Mistakes philosophy when tangling, makes it easier to embrace in my own life.
As a self-proclaimed recovering perfectionist, the ability to find the beauty and opportunity in a “mistake” has been invaluable. We would be remiss if we did not celebrate this part of the method during the 20th Anniversary celebration.
During the month of April, we will explore this philosophy by looking back at all the ways we have embraced it over the years.
