Yuba City High School is home to over 2000 students in grades 9-12. It is a place where all doors of opportunity are open for students. The school holds a special place in the hearts of the community; the tradition and pride of brown and gold runs deep. It is a great place to come to school.
Principal Rob Pogue, who is currently serving in his fourth year as principal, says that he is proud of how the school provides pathways to success after high school. “We have made great efforts to create a 21st century high school. There are multiple ways in which students achieve their educational goals; whether that’s with a diploma, taking college classes simultaneously, or completing a career pathway,” he said.
Yuba City High School strives to remove all barriers to success after high school. For example, every non-college track class in core content areas at YCHS has been aligned with the A-G requirements for college. When a senior graduates with a diploma from YCHS, they are qualified to attend college. Over 80% of all YCHS seniors attend a 2 or 4 year college after graduation; 92% of all seniors have a plan after high school, whether it be college, tech school, military or work.
“We want something for every student to connect to outside of their classes as well,” Principal Pogue said. “This helps them to have a positive experience at school and to be a part of something bigger than themselves.” YCHS has sixteen career pathways and last year they added NJROTC. It is open to all high school students within Yuba City Unified School District. Principal Pogue stated that this new addition to the school has fulfilled a need for students who didn’t have a spot; seventy students participate in this program. “I’m grateful that this program was approved by the board of trustees,” Principal Pogue said, “This program has saved lives. The community should be proud.”
The parent partnerships that the school has are critical. The parent involvement in Honker Club and Band Boosters is strong and active. “We couldn’t do all that we do without them,” Principal Pogue said. “I’m grateful for their support.”
YCHS students are currently receiving their education through distance learning. “The staff has done a phenomenal job accelerating learning to make distance learning engaging and effective,” Principal Pogue said. “Our teachers use the Teacher of Teachers Model. They have become experts in distance learning and teach each other. They have risen to the occasion and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Principal Pogue also stated that school success could not happen without their hard working and talented support staff. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to support students. They are GOLDEN!
"We are proud of the work that YCHS does on behalf of all of their students," YCUSD Superintendent Doreen Osumi said. "They continue to look at creative ways to serve their students to meet their academic and social emotional needs, with a focus on post-secondary success."
“YCHS is a great place to come to school,” Principal Pogue said. “We look forward to the time when we can have the students return to school in person.”
