Virginia Gov. Signs Bill Allowing Bottle Sales at Festivals

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed Senate Bill 1448 and House Bill 2029, identical bills presented by the Virginia Distillers Association that will enable Virginia distilleries to sell bottles at events conducted for the purpose of featuring and educating the consuming public about spirits, effective July 1, 2017. Baltimore's Sagamore Spirit Distillery to Open to Public April 21

Sagamore Spirit can be seen across Baltimore bars and restaurants, and starting April 21 fans of Under Armour CEO  Kevin Plank's whiskey will be able to get an up close look at where it's made. (Baltimore Business Journal)

Utah's Alpine Distilling Adds 2 Single Malts to Launch Lineup
Having won two International Consumer Tasting SIP Awards in 2016 before its products were available to the public, Alpine Distilling, Park City’s newest craft distillery, is now bottling both its Single Malt aged in used American Oak barrels and Traveler’s Rest 88 proof, which has been aging in French Oak in Park City. Traveler’s Rest American Single Malt Whiskey Barrel Proof and 88 proof will join the award-winning Preserve Liqueur (SIP Platinum medal winner) and Lafayette Spice Flavored Whiskey (SIP Gold medal winner) as the four products the distillery will introduce this spring. Filibuster Invests $795K to Expand Spirits Production
Filibuster Distillery will invest $795,000 to expand its whiskey production operation in Shenandoah County, Va. and create eight new jobs over the next three years. The company will source 100 percent of its corn and rye from Virginia farmers, committing to purchase over 1.57 million pounds of grain. (Augusta Free Press)
Two Distilleries Join Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour

Two new bourbon craft distilleries have been added to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour. Bluegrass Distillers in Lexington, Ky. joins Boone County Distilling Co. in Independence as the latest additions to the tour, which now includes 13 stops. (Lexington Herald Leader)

South Carolina Considering Bill to Ease Restrictions On Distilleries
Some big changes could be in store for South Carolina's purveyors of beer, wine, and spirits. Among the slew of new bills introduced in the statehouse are proposals to require mandatory training for alcohol servers, as well as plans to lighten restrictions on distilleries. (Charleston City Paper)
