Your voice has value

At the Selby Foundation, we hear students and organizations using their voices to increase opportunity for friends, colleagues, and strangers.

Sometimes voice takes the form of advocating for neighbors impacted by storms. Other times, it shows up in sharing lived experiences or knowledge about issues in our communities. It's a beautiful thing, trusting ourselves and others enough to use our voices.

We are moved by the various ways our Selby Scholars and community partners make a difference, including:

  • Having the courage to share vulnerable moments and how these moments build personal resilience and strength.
  • Simply listening to people to understand--even when it takes extra time.
  • Connecting colleagues and peers to resources that help them advance.
  • Making conscious efforts to seek information behind the issues.
  • Being mindful of complex circumstances while remaining positive about the future we can share when everyone's voice is heard.
  • Voting.

Your voice is important. Thank you for the ways you use it.

Home repairs in DeSoto County are more efficient with Selby Foundation grant

Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB) knows that making a true difference in a community requires you to be in the community--together with residents and neighbors.

With an investment from the Selby Foundation, the organization has mobilized its DeSoto-based team more efficiently to reach clients with homes in desperate need of repairs, rehabs, and disaster recovery services in the wake of hurricanes and other storms.

The $37,920 grant helped to purchase a vehicle to transport supplies, tools, hurricane kits and to conduct home assessments and projects with greater ease across DeSoto County. The support has further empowered RTTB’s staff to keep neighbors in need housed in safe, healthy, habitable, and affordable homes for years to come. Learn more about the organization.
