There is a crisis of access to two things that are non-negotiable when it comes to the success of our community’s children: mental health care and quality childhood education. The two are inextricably linked, especially for the children we serve.

One in five children under the age of 16 has a mental health condition, yet only 20% of those children will receive the care they need from a certified provider. In the neighborhoods we serve, that number could be as low as 3%. At the same time, we are experiencing a fracture in the backbone of our economy as only 50% of Virginians live in areas with access to quality child care. And these numbers were prior to the pandemic.  

 

We know how to help, but we need to do more. To meet this need, we created ChildSavers100 – or CS100. Called our “moon shot,” this comprehensive growth strategy was developed to double the reach of our programs by 2024, the year we turn 100 years old. To provide the resources necessary to realize this vision, we launched a $15 million comprehensive fundraising campaign in July 2019 which to date has raised almost $11 million. We need your help to bring our vision to life.

 

The need for ChildSavers is more urgent than ever. With your help, we can remain at the nexus of these two critical issues and continue to serve those who depend upon us.

The idea of raising $15 million to support ChildSavers was bold and represented our ‘moon shot’ vision --doubling the number of children served by our 100th anniversary in 2024.! We needed inspiring, passionate, influential leadership at the helm of the ChildSavers 100 campaign. Thankfully, we did not have far to look.

Roger Boeve’s commitment to ChildSavers is undeniable. He simply loves children. This affection led a friend to introduce Roger to ChildSavers nearly two decades ago. Roger has served on our boards, sharing his tremendous business prowess honed as a co-founder of Performance Food Group, deep connections within the Richmond community, and generous philanthropic treasure.

Like Roger, Linda Schreiner has been an integral member of the ChildSavers family for almost 20 years. First connected to ChildSavers while serving as a United Way volunteer, Linda has remained one of our greatest champions. Despite tremendous demands on her time as the Senior Vice President Strategic Management for Markel Corporation, Linda graciously assumed the role as co-chair for our campaign. Her long history with ChildSavers makes sharing our story to her vast network as natural as talking about family.

As co-chairs, Roger and Linda have led by example making significant contributions to launch the campaign and have inspired many others to do the same. With leadership from Roger and Linda, ChildSavers is ‘flight’ to the most successful fundraising campaign in our history. All for our community’s children!
