We hope all of our riders are taking advantage of the summer show circuit which is jam packed with championships, clinics, and horse shows. Zone 10 riders of all levels are seizing this opportunity to shine in the show ring. There’s no shortage of exciting programs - riders can be working toward the USEF Pony Finals, the USHJA 3’3” Jumping Seat Medal Finals, FEI North American Youth Championships, the Zone 10 Stirrup Cup or Horse of the Year Championships, the USHJA Zones 9 & 10 Jumper Team Championships, or the USHJA Children’s and Adult Amateur Hunter Championships, to name a few. Best of luck to everyone in the show ring!

Zone 10 Q & A: Get to know Laura Wasserman and Skyhawk
|
|
With the Platinum Performance/USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship on the horizon, we are looking forward to seeing our Zone 10 Derby horses represented at the Championship. One horse that has been making waves in the USHJA International Hunter Derbies this year is Skyhawk, owned by Laura Wasserman. He has won multiple derbies with several different riders, including John French, Nick Haness and Alexis Taylor Silvernale, and he makes the rounds look effortless. We caught up with his owner, Laura, to learn more about Skyhawk and what makes him so special.
Q: What is it about Skyhawk that allows him to succeed in the hunter derbies no matter who is riding him?
A: Skyhawk is very sensible, uncomplicated and kind. He always does his best and has no vices. When he goes into the show ring, he wants to win.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Skyhawk?
A: He always tries 100 percent, and he feels so incredibly safe.
Q: How did you find Skyhawk?
A: I watched him at Thermal, and he reminded of one of my other horses, Overseas. I wasn't really looking for a horse, so I just kept watching him. But, when I did start looking for a horse, he wasn't for sale. We kept looking, and months later, I got a call that they would consider selling him to us.
