Volunteer Appreciation Month: Q&A with Kathy Weinberg-Kinsey

Our compassionate, dedicated volunteers are like no other. So, we've declared June as "Volunteer Appreciation Month". Along with stories, giveaways and accolades throughout June, we invited our Volunteer Manager, Kathy Weinberg-Kinsey, to chime in on the changes and anecdotes that have inspired her during the past six years.

A tee time at The Legend at Bristlecone for stronger financial futures

CFA Society Milwaukee has chosen our nonprofit as the beneficiary of an August 14th golf outing at The Legend at Bristlecone. And you're invited!
Each registration includes practice range, lunch, 18 holes, drink tickets and a cart. A portion of your registration goes toward Make A Difference - Wisconsin and our teen financial empowerment mission.

Supporter spotlight: WaterStone finds multiple ways to give back
WaterStone Bank is one of our great supporters that also brings numerous employees into the classroom as volunteers. Two standout volunteers from WaterStone recently shared anecdotes from their student interactions.
Erin McCarthy, Regional Manager, Assistant Vice President:
"I was working with a group of students last year, and at the beginning of class they all hunkered into their seats prepared to simply sit for 50 minutes while I talked. It wasn't more than 10 minutes into the class when I asked a question and a number of hands shot straight in the air. The enthusiasm behind their involvement was contagious. At the end, we left confident the students had a good understanding of the information presented, and feeling we got so much out of it as instructors as well."
Jasmin Hernandez, Community President:
"As an alumni of South Milwaukee High School, I was able to volunteer to the junior and senior students there. I am able to relate to them and I can recall the mindset I had back at their age. I was able to sit myself in their seat and remember what it was like to be a high school student. I gained their trust and was able to engage them in asking questions that they wouldn't have thought of if I hadn't shared my stories with them prior to facilitating a course. I become passionate about helping them in those moments."

Meet Kristen Ruhl, our new senior program manager
|
|
Kristen Ruhl has joined Make A Difference as Senior Program Manager. Kristen looks forward to building upon the strong foundations of the Money Sense and Money Coach programs to increase their reach and impact. Prior to joining the our team, Kristen was the Senior Corps Program Director at Interfaith Older Adult Programs where she managed multiple volunteer-based community service programs. She began her nonprofit career at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kristen grew up in Lake Villa, Illinois. She graduated from Ball State University with a B.S. in Psychology and Philosophy, and then went on to pursue an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University. She moved to Milwaukee in 2011 and happily calls Bay View home. Reach her at
