Letter from the Director

Dear Foundation Friends,
Having just mailed a new round of scholarship dollars for three winning students interested in American Watercolor, we are delighted to once again help deserving young artists and art historians reach their professional goals.
I am happy to report that due to a targeted outreach program via social media as well as direct contact with colleges and universities, we are receiving applications from all over the country. The Whitakers' name and the foundation are getting national recognition from a new generation within the art world.
We have also tried to become a resource, especially on social media, for all things watercolor. We want to show visitors, foundation members, and scholarship alumni "the bigger picture" by disseminating pertinent information on special workshops, exhibitions, auction results and more. Let us know if this is a direction you would like us to continue pursuing.
Another exciting development is that our long time friend and Frederic Whitaker expert, Jon Kery, has retired and is now happy to focus his undivided attention on conducting pro bono research for the foundation and its members. So, if you own a Frederic Whitaker painting and would like to know more about its history, Jon is your man. Please be sure to provide us with photos of the front and back of the painting, a close up of the signature, as well as details regarding the size, title, and any other information you might have regarding your painting(s). Just to be clear, Jon is not an appraiser, so any questions regarding value need to be directed to a certified appraiser.
Lastly, we are well underway in planning the foundation's 30
th anniversary next year, and are looking forward to sharing news soon about upcoming events to celebrate this foundation milestone. Stay tuned!
All of us here at the foundation wish you a pleasant summer and hope you enjoy this latest edition of our newsletter below.
With my warmest wishes,
Barbara Cox
