Flint Lear facility hosts grand opening with tours

A grand opening of the new 156,000-square-foot Lear Corporation seat manufacturing facility situated on 33 acres at the former Buick City site in Flint was held on Saturday, Aug. 11th.
An amazing facility! stated Dartanyan Jamerson, Director of Workforce Development.  The Mott Community College Workforce De velopment team assisted Lear with identifying their talent and new hire on-boarding.  Among the attendees from Mott were Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, President; Robert Matthews, Associate Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development; Dartanyan Jamerson, Director of Workforce Development; and Kathleen LaVallier, Job Development Specialist.

The plant was built after the company said it decided to move production from its Rochester Hills facility to Flint rather than Mexico.  Lear has anticipated hiring more than 430 people for the $29 million seat manufacturing facility supplying General Motors' Flint Truck Assembly plant and employing 600 workers at full production mode by 2019.

Flint Promise

Flint  Promise is a scholarship program for graduates of high schools located in the city of Flint.  By covering the cost of tuition after federal grants and other scholarships have been applied, Flint Promise allows eligible students to attend participating colleges for little to no cost.  In doing so, the scholarship program provides increased access to higher education for Flint's young people and represents a continuous investment in the city's future.  Enrollment for the scholarship began March 1st.

Students are encouraged to complete their FAFSA, which is a requirement of the Flint Promise application.  Click here for more information.

What is Flint Promise?

Flint Promise is a commitment to offer scholarships and support services to students who both reside in the City of Flint and graduate from a high school or GED program located in the City of Flint.
What does the scholarship cover?
Flint Promise is a "last-dollar" scholarship, which means it covers the remaining balance of college tuition, books and mandatory fees after grants and other scholarships are received. The scholarship is pro-rated based on the number of years a student resides in Flint and attends an eligible high school. Through Flint Promise, students who qualify for a full scholarship will be able to attend college at no cost to them.  Read quick facts here.

Together.
Shaping the Future.

American author Sidney Madwed offers the following insight.

"Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes, and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image.  What we continually think about eventually will manifest in our lives."

Isn't that true?  We get to choose what we think about.  And those thoughts determine our actions.  When a negative thought comes up, acknowledge it in a neutral manner, don't allow it to become "one" with you, then gently set it aside and choose a different thought--one that will move and empower you.  We can be a victor or a victim of our minds.
