Supervisors Participate in Greater Phoenix Economic Council’s Washington D.C. ExecMission

This week, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Mike Goodman, Vice-Chairman Jeffrey McClure, and Economic and Workforce Development Director James Smith participated in the Greater Phoenix Economic Council's Washington D.C. ExecMission.

The mission included meetings and discussions with Arizona's congressional delegation and panel discussions on various topics critical to future growth, including trade with Taiwan, the semiconductor industry, and developments in artificial intelligence.

ExecMission participants spent one day focused on various tracks that are key for the region, including Infrastructure, aerospace and defense, climate technology, bioscience, and foreign direct investment. These "breakout" meetings allowed for focused discussions with several important federal agencies.

These biennial missions are an effort to communicate Greater Phoenix's needs and opportunities to leaders in our nation's capitol and to learn about various federal programs that will help ensure the region is well-positioned for continued growth.

Supervisor McClure said of the experience, "It's been an exciting and informative few days in Washington, D.C. Supervisor Goodman and I were able to make a good number of acquaintances while promoting the opportunities Pinal County presents and laying the groundwork for future collaborations."

Fentanyl Awareness Day

Tuesday, May 7, marked National Fentanyl Awareness Day, an opportunity to raise awareness about the drug, which is often found mixed into other pills and substances and can lead to fatal overdoses. This also affects unsuspecting youth who take pills obtained or purchased on social media, unaware they contain fentanyl.

"Fentanyl is destroying our communities, and it is as important as ever to have conversations with your loved ones, especially your children," said County Attorney Kent Volkmer. "We are committed to holding dealers accountable, but this is a collective community effort to reduce both supply & demand for this dangerous drug."

Recently, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb joined County Attorney Volkmer on the 'Courtroom Chronicles podcast to discuss fentanyl, and you can see that conversation in the above video.
