Country Thunder 2024 is Underway in Florence

April 11-14

The annual music festival has returned to Florence this week and will see over 30,000 country music lovers, with a lineup featuring Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Eric Church, Koe Wetzel, Warren Zeiders, and more!


Whether you plan to attend Country Thunder or visit the Florence region, drivers should be prepared for heavier traffic along State Route 79 and expect travel delays in the Florence region.

County Environmental Health Inspect Country Thunder Food Vendors to Ensure Music Lovers Stay Healthy

Country Thunder is an event that requires the collaboration of many Pinal County Departments, including the Sheriff's Office, and another that you might not think of - Pinal County's Environmental Health team.


With around 35 food vendors on site, the Environmental Health team inspects any vendors selling food or drinks to ensure festival goers stay safe and healthy! Click on the video to learn more.

Dark Sky Hike at Peralta Regional Park Recap

On April 4, Pinal County Parks and Trails hosted a dark skies hike at Peralta Regional Park to celebrate "Dark Skies Week." Participants had the opportunity to take a guided hike with staff to experience the beauty of the Sonoran Desert at night. They made stops along the way to get a closer look at the sights and sounds of nocturnal life and take in all the beauty of the night sky!

Dark Skies Week Fun Continues Today With Science in the Sky Star Party

Join Oracle State Park, an International Dark Sky Park, for an evening of telescope viewing of night sky objects on the patio of the Kannally Ranch House. This event is in partnership with the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association (TAAA). Two local astronomers will give science talks from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., before a Star Party from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Rabies Incident Involving Wildlife in Oracle Area

Recently, wildlife in the Oracle area has tested positive for rabies. Signs have been placed at trails and state parks in the area, alerting hikers and those walking their pets to be cautious. To report any aggressive, strange, or unusual wild animal behavior, please contact the Arizona Game and Fish Department at 1-800-352-0700.


What you need to know:

  • If you are hiking with pets, please be sure they are on a leash and have been vaccinated against rabies.
  • Do not approach or attempt to pet or handle any wild animals.
  • If you sustain a wild animal bite: Wash the area with soap and water and visit the nearest emergency room for medical care.
  • If your pet sustains a wild animal bite: Transport your pet to their veterinarian or the nearest emergency veterinary clinic.

Vaccine Clinic in San Manuel

In light of this recent rabies incident, please make sure your pets are properly vaccinated. The Pinal County Animal Care and Control Department is hosting a Vaccine Clinic this Sunday, April 14th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office in San Manuel (28380 S. Veterans Memorial Hwy, San Manuel 85631).

There is Still Time to Register for Next Weekends Citizens Academy

Have you ever wondered how the criminal justice system works or how a case comes before a judge?


PCAO Citizens Academy is designed to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a case, from a suspect’s initial arrest and booking into Pinal County Detention Center to their sentencing or acquittal. You can tour the county jail, go over details, and review evidence of several cases prosecuted by PCAO. You will also be able to use a shooting simulator to understand better real-life scenarios facing law enforcement.

Governor's Youth Commission Now Accepting Applications for 2024-2025 Class

The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family (GOYFF) is pleased to announce that applications for the 2024-2025 Governor’s Youth Commission (GYC) Class are now open. The GYC is an advisory body composed of high school students representing all the state counties appointed by the Governor. Its mission is to promote healthier communities through youth volunteerism and service learning, increase awareness of the most significant issues affecting their community, and encourage civic participation.

 

Qualifications: Applicants must be students enrolled in an Arizona high school and be in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of school for 2024-2025.

 

Term: Commissioners serve a one (1) year term but may apply to serve up to three (3) terms with the GYC, so long as they are still in high school and are selected through the renewal application process.

Town Hall in Casa Grande on April 17

Save the date! District 3 Supervisor Steve Miller will be hosting a Town Hall in Casa Grande on April 17th at 6 p.m. to provide an update on the state of the county and District 3.


Staff from various county departments will be on hand to provide updates and take questions. The event takes place at the Casa Grande Dispatch Central Event Hall.
