Bowlin' for Colons 2024: Team Mark and Holly

The UW Carbone Cancer Centers 23nd Annual Bowlin’ for Colons 2024 is scheduled for Sunday March 3. Since 2015 a group of Sugar River members have participated in the event to honor Mark Hagensick and his love of bowling. This year we want to expand the team and also honor Holly Steger who passed away from cancer in 2018. Even though it is called Bowlin’ for Colons, this event raises funds for all GI cancers.

Teams will be bowling at alleys all around the greater Madison area that day. “Team Mark and Holly” will be bowling at Ten Pin Alley in Fitchburg again this year. We have two lanes reserved from 12-4 pm on Sunday March 4. Now we need your support.

Go to https://give.wiscmedicine.org/team/557117 to check out the “Team Mark and Holly” webpage. You can donate to the team or a specific team member there. We’d also love for you to come out to the bowling alley that afternoon and cheer us on. Let’s make this year’s total fundraising the best ever!

We’d love to see you there.

Wisconsin United Methodist Foundation Scholarships

Students, we know have many choices when it comes to scholarships, and we appreciate you considering the Wisconsin United Methodist Foundation! Youth groups and youth participation are an important part of Methodist ministry in Wisconsin.

But it’s a chicken-and-an-egg situation – you want to have enough activities, sports and extra-curriculars to earn a scholarship, but filling out applications for a scholarship is a part-time job. We get it, and we try to make it easy for you.

Visit our website for the details and forms. All we need from you:

1. A completed one-page Scholarship Application form.

2. Two references – one from your current pastor and one from another active lay person in the church who knows you well (no relation).

3. A letter of application (the easiest essay you’ll ever write, we promise!) You must include your personal situation and vocational/educational goals at college, your church-related activities and involvement, your school and community involvement, and your financial plan and other scholarships you might receive.

4. Unweighted GPA certification and current academic status (most applicants send an official or unofficial transcript).

Thursday Morning Online Men's Group

We currently have 8 men in our group. We have been meeting via Zoom since this Pandemic began. This is a great group of guys dedicated to learning and growing our faith. I think our group has grown spiritually by learning to trust God's guidance. I know our interaction allows us to learn about God’s word together and to support each other’s Journey with Christ. We have space for more men in our Zoom room. So -for any of you guys out there, you are all welcome.

In this group, we choose meaningful studies using books, videos, and study guides that bring out great discussions and it provides a great opportunity to share and listen to each other’s ideas.

Contact Mike Polk for details.

Palm Parade and Easter Celebration

All children at Sugar River are invited to participate in a Palm Parade on Palm Sunday (March 24th) at the beginning of worship. The children will have an opportunity to join the parade into the sanctuary, waving palms and then share a song we will be learning in Sunday School with the congregation before heading off to Sunday School for a special lesson. Following worship and fellowship, the children are also invited to join in an Easter Celebration which will include lots of fun activities and an Easter Egg Hunt. Contact Pastor Erin for more information or to sign up volunteer!

A friendly reminder- there will be no Sunday School on Easter Sunday.
