We Appreciate You!
In gratefulness and thanksgiving for the many hours of preparation and teaching, the Faith Formation team is making a donation to the
CPC Cares fund on behalf of the many folks who have been involved in leading the educational opportunities provided to our congregation. Normally this dedicated group of people would be honored during a worship service and celebrated during the Sunday School year-end picnic. Thank you to all for your time, talents and commitment to our church family!

At Home Faith Formation for Families
The Children in Worship lesson for this week is the story "Jesus and the Storm" based on Mark 4:35-41. Together we will wonder what it was like to be in such a great storm. We'll wonder why the wind and the sea did what Jesus said and we'll wonder what the disciples told their families and friends when they came ashore.
Session has approved for us to hold VBS outdoors on the church grounds! Mark your calendar for July 20 -24 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon We understand that not are families are comfortable with in-person gatherings at this time, so we are looking at ways to share portions of the program virtually.
We will use curriculum from Illustrated Ministry: Compassion Camp: Be Loved, Be Kind, Be You, which embodies compassion for others, ourselves and the world. Planning is underway and registration will begin soon. Contact Jen Pierce for more information.

Congregational Meeting via Zoom, June 21
after Online Worship
Topic: Sale of Easement Property to Town of Cary
Members of Cary Presbyterian:
The Session has called for a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, June 21 after worship. The meeting will be held via Zoom. A link to the meeting will be sent as the date approaches.
The Town of Cary is purchasing from the church a small, 1/4 acre slice of land along Griffis St. to help complete the Higgins Greenway trail. The trail runs along the side of the church property adjacent to the upper parking area, across the front of the church on Griffis St, and behind the homes on Shirley Drive and Hillcrest Cemetery where it joins Kildaire Farm Road.
The Town assures us no large trees will be removed for the project, the church sign will not be affected, and only a few bushes will need to be cleared. To compensate the church for the loss of this strip of land, the town offers payment of $65,250 based on a current appraisal.
As required by the PC(USA) and our Bylaws, any decision to buy or sell church real property must be voted on by the congregation members and cannot be decided by the Session alone. However, the Session does recommend the congregation approve of the sale of the property to the Town of Cary. Further information about the property and the terms of the sale is linked here and a map is here.
We hope you will join this Congregational Meeting to offer your comments and vote on the offer.

Memorials & Endowment Committee
Announces 2020 Grant Cycle
Application Deadline: June 19
Is there a mission or faith-based activity you are passionate about, but is not yet sponsored through the CPC budget? If so, a grant awarded by the Memorials & Endowment Team is a great way to obtain capital needed to foster such a project.
The purpose of an M&E grant is to provide resources to support faith-based initiatives. These initiatives must align with the overall purpose of the Endowment Fund, which is to provide opportunities for members to support the benevolent, educational, and mission work of the whole church. The grants are short term, non-recurring gifts and are not intended to replace existing budgets or support ongoing projects. Any CPC member may apply.
Not sure if a certain initiative falls within the parameters of the grant guidelines? Please review the guidelines at the link on our website page, or contact one of the committee members with any questions regarding the application process.
The application deadline is Monday June 19 and approved grants will be announced by August 15, with funds disbursed by September 15 or as needed thereafter. Grant applications as well as policy guidelines are located in the church office and online at our website page.
The M&E Team looks forward to reviewing your grant,
Donna Adkins, Barbara Carew, Elizabeth Guthrie, Tim Goettel, and Scott Peoples (Team Lead).

Cool Books Club News
The Cool Books Club will meet via Zoom on Tuesday, June 30, at 7:00 p.m. Our book this month is
The Jefferson Bible: The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth
by Thomas Jefferson.
A copy of this book can be found quite inexpensively online in many forms. Thomas Jefferson believed that the pure-principled teachings of Jesus should have been separated from the dogma and abuse of organized religion of the day. This led him to recast, by cutting and pasting from the gospels, a new narrative of the life and teachings of Jesus, where, according to Jefferson, ""there will be found remaining the most sublime and benevolent code of morals which has ever been offered to man."
Josetta McLaughlin will set up the Zoom meeting. If you would like to join our discussion or just listen, please
contact Josetta by email here and inform her of a phone number at which she can reach you in case of technical difficulties. John Harvey will lead the discussion of this book, which he recommended.

CPC Cares: A Local Response
to a Worldwide Emergency
Thank you very much for your continued gifts to our CPC Cares: COVID-19 Community Assistance Fund. As of June 3, we have received gifts of
$20,000! We have sent donations of $5,000 each to Dorcas Ministries and The Carying Place, and we made a $1,000 gift to our neighbor, A Place at the Table. We also have set aside $9,000 for CPC members, friends and neighbors who may need assistance in the weeks and months to come.
This fund was established in April to respond to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the fund is to financially assist our members, friends and community partners during this time of crisis. Half of the offering received is immediately disbursed to Dorcas Ministries and The Carying Place, two local charities with large CPC financial support and volunteer involvement. The other half is retained to help with financial assistance for CPC members, friends and neighbors in need. Any funds remaining after the crisis has passed will be disbursed to The Carying Place, Dorcas Ministries and other charities.
If you wish to make gifts directly, here are links to Dorcas Ministries and The Carying Place.
We appreciate all of your gifts. During this time of severe worldwide crisis, we strive to remember all of those less fortunate, and help where we can, and if we are able.
If you have any questions, please contact elders Todd Crouse, Hal Drumheller, Craig Hofmeister or Barbara Carew (finance manager).

Session Appoints CPC Reopening Task Force
At its June 1 meeting, the Session addressed the procedure for planning and implementing the gradual reopening of the church campus. The ruling Elders considered a document sent them by Dr. Hix that suggested key Principles to guide the process and the ongoing Problems we will face as we do so. Read about the plans and themes pertinent to reopening on the CPC website at this link.

Free Firewood at CPC
It's hard to think about firewood during warm days in June, but some is now available on the CPC campus. A fallen tree was recently cut into smaller segments. The pieces are located on the grounds across from where the bus is parked, in the front parking lot, just beyond the preschool teacher parking spaces. These are stump sized pieces that can be loaded fairly easily, but still will need to be split. The wood is available to anyone for the taking.
