We're committed to keeping you informed and staying engaged with you about your water system (Tahoe Cedars Water System), which has surpassed its useful life and urgently needs replacement.
TCPUD is investing in your water system and has initiated design and permitting for its full reconstruction.
One planned improvement:
- Install 97 new fire hydrants to address poor hydrant spacing.
Appropriate hydrant spacing is important to meet firefighting standards for water pressure and flow rates. The Tahoe Cedars Water System’s existing hydrant coverage fails to meet the required spacing of 500 feet for residential areas, with the largest gaps occurring within the residential grid neighborhood. Furthermore, water mains were placed primarily in backyards when the system was built in the 1940s. The new hydrants will be installed on the streets and connected to replaced or new water mains.
Fire Hydrant Flow Test Moratorium
Fire hydrant testing ensures the hydrant is functioning at an acceptable pressure and flow rate for firefighting. Due to your system’s worn and compromised condition, a moratorium restricting physical hydrant testing is in place. A less robust computerized modeling method is being used.
