Mauro Neves is a highly experienced global executive who has spent 30 years in the resources and logistics sectors. He recently joined Incitec Pivot Limited in Victoria, Australia, as CEO and Managing Director. Mauro is a mechanical engineer with dual Brazilian Australian citizenship. He has a proven track record of driving operational and strategic business performance for some of the world's largest mining companies.
In 2017, Mauro joined BHP as Asset President for the company's Escondida operations in Chile. This joint venture between BHP, Rio Tinto, and JECO (a Japanese consortium led by Mitsubishi) is responsible for the largest copper mine in the world, accounting for approximately 5% of global copper production. The mine employs around 10,000 people and includes mining pits, a concentrator, two power plants, a transmission network, a port, and the largest desalination complex on the continent.
Mauro's impressive career includes serving as Executive Vice President - Commercial and Marketing at Aurizon Holdings Limited from 2014 to 2017. As a member of the executive committee, he was responsible for managing a portfolio of A$4 billion in annual sales. Aurizon is one of the largest rail freight operators in Australia.
Prior to this, Mauro held various roles at Vale S.A. between 2004 and 2014. Vale is a Brazilian multinational miner and logistics operator. During his ten years with Vale, Mauro held the role of Global Coal Director, where he led the Vale coal business with operations in Australia, Colombia, Mozambique, and China.
In 2021, Mauro was appointed Asset President for BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) in Queensland, Australia's largest producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal.
Mauro holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1994) and a Master of Science in Business Logistics and Administration from Pontificia Universidade (1997).
