Please join Amberley Village Council in celebrating the retirement of K9 Creed at our upcoming Council Meeting on September 9 at 6:30 pm in Council Chambers. Festivities include a proclamation for Creed's years of service, as well as a reception featuring light refreshments to follow.

Below are Creed's Career Highlights, which include service to fifteen local agencies, as well as an impressive list of patrol and narcotics deployments. Ice Cream Social Exceeds Expectations

Amberley Village hosted its annual Ice Cream Social on August 25 to a record-breaking crowd of 652 attendees. Collectively, residents donated 1.5 barrels of non-perishable food items and 500 pairs of shoes, consumed 450 hot dogs, 687 Kona Ice servings and 746 UDF Homemade Brand ice cream cups!

Ages ranged from newborn to elderly, and everything in between. Activities included face painters, a balloon artist and spin art, as well as safety education and civic organization booths. And the ever-popular firehose spray over the tennis courts stayed up and running throughout the event due to the extreme heat! Two trolleys transported the vast majority of attendees from Amberley Green to the Municipal Building, and each family in attendance received an Amberley Village cooler bag to take home.

Thanks to all who participated in this year's event, particularly our sponsors, volunteers and staff - we couldn't do it without you! Enjoy our short video tribute below!

New Gas Aggregation Agreement Signed

The Village's current natural gas aggregation program with IGS will conclude in October 2024. Our aggregation broker has been overseeing a competitive bidding process to provide Amberley Village residents the opportunity to capitalize on natural gas savings, and recently locked in a rate of $0.506/Ccf. If you currently participate in the Village’s gas aggregation program with IGS, be aware that you will be receiving an opt out letter in September with the Village’s new rate and supplier. If you wish to remain with the Village’s program, you do not have to do anything.

A second letter will be sent out to residents currently not enrolled, but who are eligible for the Village gas aggregation program. These will likely arrive later in September or early October. Response is required to join the aggregation program, and instructions will be included in the letter.

Residents always have the ability to research their own program by visiting the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio's "Energy Choice Ohio" at www.energychoice.ohio.gov. It also is highly likely that you will receive phone calls and mailings from various organizations offering reduced rate opportunities. If you wish to choose a different plan, the Village cautions that you become familiar with another vendor’s program thoroughly before making the switch. Many vendors may provide lower introductory rates; however, once the introductory period expires, rates may increase significantly higher than the Village’s longer-term aggregation rate. It is beneficial to inquire what the new rate would be upon its expiration. In addition, there may be fees and penalties with canceling prior to a contract end date. There are no fees or penalties associated with the Village’s program.

The Village will continue to keep residents informed via E-News and website updates at www.amberleyvillage.org. Feel free to call our Administration Offices with any questions at 513-531-8675.

Pedestrian Safety & Speeding in the Village

With back-to-school upon us and the end of summer near, especially in light of increased traffic due to Norwood Lateral construction, Village residents are reminded of the following important safety reminders:

Driver Safety

·   Be alert for pedestrians; they can appear unexpectedly, especially at night, in poor lighting or during bad weather.

·   Never pass a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk, as pedestrians may be crossing.

·   Drive slowly in school zones and neighborhoods where children are often present.

·   Obey posted speed limits to improve your reaction time and visibility. These include 25 mph on Section Road and all residential streets, and 35 mph on Ridge and Galbraith Roads.

Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety

·   Use sidewalks and paths when available.

·   Cross at marked crosswalks or intersections.

·   Stay alert and avoid distractions like headphones and cell phones.

·   Make eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you.

· Wear bright clothing to increase visibility.

What to Expect

·   Please note that Amberley Village Police Department will be issuing citations for speeding and attempting to pass by going left of center.

·   Increased patrols will be out watching for violations to ensure safety for all residents, motorists and pedestrians.

Accelerated Streets Program:

Rollman Estates Project Complete!

Barret Construction has completed paving at the Rollman Estates Project, and applied a rejuvenate product to extend the life of the new roadway. Village staff will be conducting a final inspection before signing off on the work. This represents completion of year four of the program, and covered Rollman Estates Drive, Glenfarm Court, Beech Hollow Drive, Clearwood Court, Ambercreek Drive, Rolling Ridge Court and Ridgeway Close.

The Accelerated Streets Program represents an overall investment of $6.7 million over eight years to make significant advancements on our street conditions. The Village is now in the fourth year of an eight-year plan. The 2025 program will involve a careful evaluation of street conditions by the Village Engineer, and will be finalized in the winter of 2024.

Thanks again to all of our residents for their patience as we work to invest in our infrastructure. Stay tuned for additional information!

Cost-Saving Culture:

Village Receives Grant to Demolish

Old Crestview Hills Clubhouse

Amberley Village has received a grant from the Hamilton County Community Revitalization Grant in the amount of $290,000 to demolish the clubhouse at Amberley Green, representing 85% of the cost of project. The purpose of the grant is to remove blighted and condemned buildings.

The Village will contribute approximately $34,000 toward the demolition. Tennis courts and shed facility will remain in place, and the building is expected to be completely demolished and restoration complete by the end of 2025. Amberley Village continues to seek funding to cover the portion not covered by Hamilton County.

Residents may notice some changes at the property as a result of the demolition. Amberley Village will continue to communicate updates as the project progresses.

Leaf Composting Grant

Amberley Village has also received funding from the Hamilton County Resource Impact Grant toward the purchase of a new leaf vacuum which will allow the Village to compost leaves. The leaves will then be available to residents in the form of leaf mulch for use in residential gardening. The Village will send out additional information regarding the availability of the leaf mulch once the purchase is complete

and the program is kicked off. Leaf compost availability for residents is not expected until Spring of 2026. The Village received $75,000 from Hamilton County, to which the Village will contribute $25,000.

Property Maintenance Guidelines

As we prepare to change seasons, it's always a good time to reevaluate things at home to ensure we're ready for the weather change, but also that we're being good neighbors. Below is a snapshot of some of the most prominent property maintenance issues in the Village, and how best to ensure you're doing your part. Initially staff will contact a homeowner by telephone to address an issue. If we are unable to reach you, a letter will be sent describing the issue and a date by which corrections must be made.

Amberley Village is committed to working with residents to resolve property maintenance issues. Your biggest contribution to preserving property values and Village aesthetics is to do a regular sweep of your property to ensure everything is up to Code. Learn more via the Village Property Maintenance Code at the button below.

Brush

Brush should be lined up perpendicular to street, and free of debris

Yard Waste

Yard waste too small for pickup by the Village should be placed in your bin and set out for Rumpke

Large Items for Disposal

Contact Rumpke in advance to arrange pickup for larger items

Grass

Grass should be no taller than 10". Grass clippings should not be swept into the street, as this clogs gutters

Noxious Weeds

Yards must be free of noxious weeds, and well maintained

General Upkeep & Maintenance

Peeling paint, damaged shutters, gutters in disrepair are all cause for property maintenance reminders

Municipal Building Roof Repairs

Roof Repairs at the Municipal Building

Crews delivered and placed materials on the roof of the Municipal Building prior to this year's Ice Cream Social in preparation for scheduled repairs. Below, arrows indicate where materials were dropped by crane in a drone photo taken at the Ice Cream Social.

Repairs are underway on the Amberley Village Municipal Building roof, which at 20+ years old, has reached its lifespan. Leaks and cracks on the flat black rubber roof portion necessitated the work, which was held until after the Annual Ice Cream Social. Below, a crane lifts materials required to make the repairs onto the roof prior to the Ice Cream Social.

Workers anticipate the project to be completed by the end of September. The new roof will come with a 30 year warranty, and was budgeted as a capital improvement item after nursing it along for many years. In addition, as a cost-saving measure, the Village will also replace the last of the HVAC units on the roof, which allowed the rental of the crane to be shared across both projects.

Environmental Stewardship Committee Promotes Hefty ReNEW Program

The Environmental Stewardship Committee (ESC) along with some Amberley Staff members toured the Rumpke Recycling Center in St. Bernard. Everyone was impressed with the efficiency of the system. The last tour by the ESC was 10 years ago and Rumpke has made significant investments in the facility to increase efficiency including the use of technology, including artificial intelligence. Some interesting points noted by attendees included:

·        All of the recycled materials are processed within 200 miles of Cincinnati with the exception of aluminum. Aluminum is sent to a smelter in Alabama.

·        In the case of cardboard, the turn-around is very quick and it can take as little as 2 weeks before the cardboard is being used again. Aluminum is turned around in approximately 90 days.

·      Acceptance of the orange bag recycling program (Hefty bags) has been very good across the Cincinnati area. There was a bench and a drainage block on display at the facility that are products from this program.

It was clear from the tour of Rumpke that recycling works, and it is making a difference. Following the rules of what belongs in the recycle bins versus the garbage bins allows the introduction of even more recycling opportunities. The orange bag program is an example of this, and we encourage everyone to use this program.

Finally, two important reminders of what should never be placed in your recycle bins because it causes major problems:

·        No batteries

·        No plastic bags
