Greetings!
The New Significance (TNS) is a web magazine exploring revolutionary forces for change and autonomy in the 21st Century. So far, we are a little less than two months old. To help ensure our existence into the future we have recently embarked on a fundraising campaign. We began fundraising at the beginning of June and hope to meet our goal of raising $10,000 by August. We have gotten off to a slow start, but with your help, we think we can do it. Here is how:
- Use the share buttons and email forward options contained in this email to spread the word about TNS.
Every little bit helps... We hope you enjoy your sample TNS web magazine below. Please make sure you check out our video exclusives located at the bottom of this email.
Thank you, TNS

Aditya Chakrabortty: Athens Protests - Syntagma Square On Frontline Of European Austerity Protests Athenians used to stop off at Syntagma Square for the shopping, the shiny rows of upmarket boutiques. Now they arrive in their tens of thousands to protest. Swarming out of the metro station, they emerge into a village of tents, pamphleteers and a booming public address system. Spaniards March In Several Cities To Protest High Unemployment, Political Leadership Tens of thousands of Spanish protesters - young and old, those with jobs and those without - marched Sunday in Madrid to drive home their anger over high unemployment, bleak economic prospects and politicians they consider inept. Similar demonstrations were being held in other cities including Barcelona in the north, Valencia in the east and Seville in the south. Police were out in force after a Wednesday protest in Barcelona turned violent. Protester Antonio Cortes, 58, said Spain's workers were being asked to bear the brunt of the financial crisis. Justin Lewis: The Power Of Advertising - A Threat To Our Way Of Life Advertising is everywhere. Media that were once largely commercial free - from movies to the internet - now come replete with commercial messages. Not so long ago, most musicians were reluctant to see their work used to endorse shampoo or sneakers. Today, the music and advertising industries are locked in a lucrative embrace. We now have commercials in our schools and on our clothes. They clog up - with increasing speed - nearly every form of communication we devise. Our dominant TV genre - in terms of sheer volume - is not comedy, drama or sport, but advertising. The average British viewer is now exposed to 48 TV commercials a day. Recent studies showed that around a third of Australian TV time is now taken up by commercials. In the US the figures is closer to 40%. Read entire article |

Wendy Smith: "The President And The Assassin" By Scott Miller Veteran journalist Scott Miller has done something very interesting in his first book: He has conjoined two kinds of histories to create a portrait of the United States at the turn of the 20th century as a country divided between worldviews so radically dissimilar that they hardly seemed to be describing the same reality. Ryan Gallagher: Mass Gypsy Eviction Looms In Essex Around 30 miles east of central London, one of the largest evictions in recent British history is looming. More than 90 families at Dale Farm, Europe's biggest gypsy site, expect to be served with a 28-day enforcement notice any day now, after the Home Office earlier this month awarded a 4.65m special grant to Essex Police to assist with ...
