Strategic Economic Development Plan Completed
After nearly a year in development, the strategic economic development plan for Chemung County is completed.

STEG and the Chemung County IDA engaged MRB Group to gather input from Chemung County Leadership, businesses, and other partners/stakeholders

to prepare a plan that focuses on:
  • Business Development
  • Built Environment/Infrastructure
  • Human Capital
  • Creating Vibrant Communities

We are grateful to everyone who participated in the process. This document will serve to inform the updated Chemung County Comprehensive Plan as that process moves forward.

ENGAGE Feature: Southern Tier Logistics
Join us in Celebrating Southern Tier Logistics as our July ENGAGE Feature of the month. Southern Tier Logistics has been in operation for over two decades in New York. Their mission is "To provide our customers with the best possible warehousing and transportation services while maintaining competitive and fair prices. We accomplish this through the creative involvement of our greatest resource, our associates."

The Ohio Logistics/Southern Tier Logistics journey started in a 100,000 sq ft building and through determination and commitment to their associates, customers, and community, they now operate in over three million square feet of building space in multiple locations in our region. They are in the process of developing a 200-acre business park in the Village of Horseheads. This project contains a 7-year investment plan totaling $125 million, the project received assistance from the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency and a $2,000,000 grant from Empire State Development. 

Rather than just being a service provider, STL truly focuses on being a supply chain partner. They display a deep commitment and engagement in the communities in which they operate, including involvement in 137 community programs, schools, and charitable organizations. STL searches for individuals who possess skills in time management, attention to detail, collaboration, problem-solving, as well as adaptability to join their team.

About Us:
Southern Tier Economic Growth (STEG) a private, not-for-profit organization that fosters prosperity and vitality in Chemung County through the planning, promotion and implementation of economic development programs. Its board of directors has over 65 members, over 75 percent are private business people working side-by-side with chief elected officials and education and community leaders to help create and retain jobs, sustaining a strong economy. It works with the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA), a Public Benefit Corporation of the State of New York that was formed in 1975. The Chemung County IDA consists of a seven-member Board of Directors and provides a variety of tax incentives, financing, and/or related benefits to a broad range of eligible projects that provide a positive economic impact within Chemung County.
