Exceptional Children's Week 2024 graphic

This is Exceptional Children's Week!

Exceptional Children's Week is an annual celebration of students with exceptionalities and the professionals who serve them. This year's theme is Accessibility for All! Join us as we celebrate this week, from April 15 to April 19.

The week-long celebration is a national event started by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), an international professional organization dedicated to improving the success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.

1 in 6 Households Are at Risk of Losing Internet Access if Congress Doesn’t Act Now

Twenty-three million low-income Americans are at risk of losing internet access starting this month if Congress doesn’t move quickly and renew funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)―a popular program aimed at reducing the digital divide between those who can afford broadband access and those who cannot.

The ACP was passed in 2021 as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Its purpose is to provide households with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty line (or about $30,000 for a single adult) with a monthly stipend of $30 ($75 for Native people living on Tribal lands) to help ensure internet access to all.

Now, with 1 in 6 households benefiting and despite strong bipartisan support for the program, it is running out of money. The FCC, which runs the program, has already had to stop taking new subscribers. So, this past Fall, President Biden called for an additional $6 billion to extend the ACP through 2024.

FAFSA Week of Action

Is From April 15-19

The FAFSA has been revamped for the first time in 40 years, and this newer, better form is easier to fill out, and is designed to help more students qualify for federal aid.

SPAN is partnering with the Department of Education to spread the word and make sure students are taking advantage of this opportunity. Fill out your FAFSA today, and if you have a college-aged student in your life, tell them to stop what they’re doing right now and submit their FASFA form by April 19!

The form can be filled out at
