Assistive Technology - Teen Leaders Share What Works! (Advocate/Educate) We are delighted to be collaborating with Decoding Dyslexia - Oregon to present this workshop. Date : Monday, May 6th Venue : Portland Providence Medical Center 4805 Northeast Glisan Street Time : 7 PM to 9 PM Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meet with your tutor via the Internet? Have you experienced ear-reading by using audio books? Can you imagine capturing multi-media notes from your classes? During this event, participants will experience small group demonstrations of an array of assistive technologies given by local students, parents, and teachers. Summer Programs (Educate)

We are pleased to share the following summer programs that are offered by our IDA - Oregon members.

The Blosser Center is happy to announce REV UP YOUR READING Summer School is providing tutoring for students in the Portland area; this will be our tenth year! We will be offering individual Orton-Gillingham tutoring along with small group composition and penmanship. We will meet mornings July 1-30; we will be closed July 4th and 5th. Language Learning Connections is providing reading interventions either at home or in clinic with Fast For Word. The intensity of this program leads to fast change and lasting improvement; the intervention does not need to be repeated. For more information, contact Marla Resnick by email msr3953@aol.com

Lindamood-Bell - helps children and adults improve language processing—the foundation of all communication and learning. For 30 years, our intensive, one-to-one, process-based instruction has been used to strengthen the sensory-cognitive functions needed for reading and comprehension. Our instruction is based on the individual's learning needs and has been proven successful for individuals with learning challenges, including dyslexia and ADHD. Use this summer to make a difference! Park Academy - This highly engaging and interactive four-week program of study is designed to use multi-sensory instructional methodologies to help students expand their literacy, math skills and social skills. Through intellectually stimulating and fun activities, including the use of computer applications, students will be immersed in creative and innovative learning expeditions and application-based experiences in the community. Has a summer program for any children with learning differences or who struggle in school. Students who will be entering 6-9th grade in the fall are eligible. The program offers educational classes in the morning from 8:30-12. There are also afternoon enrichment classes offered for those interested from 12-3. Membership Social with Todd "Hammer" Semmes (Inspire)  At our April Member Social held at Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub in downtown Portland, 35 current IDA - Oregon Branch members gathered to get to know each other, share experiences and listen to Todd “Hammer” Semmes. Hammer shared his educational story and how he became an entrepreneur in the film industry (not to mention the winner of both an Oscar and an Emmy). Conference Corner

Scholarships Are you interested in trying to get a scholarship or grant to attend the annual IDA conference? There are scholarships for teachers and parents. Travel Portland hosted the IDA home office conference planning team earlier this year. Jane Cooper accompanied the team as they met with the Portland Convention Center management team as well as the host hotels.
