The Pillar Award

Robert J. LaFortune 

Robert J. LaFortune

 The LaFortune name has been a signature of public service and philanthropy in the Tulsa community for more than 80 years. Robert J. LaFortune is no exception to his family's enduring legacy, having played a significant role in the cultural and physical development of the city of Tulsa through his 60-year career as a community leader, former mayor, passionate philanthropist, volunteer fundraiser, and stanch advocate for nonprofit organizations. Robert graduated from Cascia Hall Preparatory School in 1944 and attended The University of Tulsa. He served as Mayor of Tulsa from 1970-1978, and along with his family, was instrumental in the development of many of Tulsa's businesses and cultural venues. His most recent leadership role is Chair of the Tulsa Library Trust capital campaign, which is nearing successful completion with more than $54 million in pledges.
Robert was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1975 and the Tulsa Hall of Fame in 1988. He received the Eastern Oklahoma AFP Outstanding Philanthropist award in 1989.

The Pillar Award is given periodically to a person or organization for exceptional philanthropic service. The board of the Eastern Oklahoma Chapter of AFP chose to honor Mr. LaFortune because of his phenomenal generosity and service that have made Tulsa and eastern Oklahoma a better place to live for all.

Outstanding Philanthropists
Wendy and Gentner Drummond

Wendy and Gentner Drummond are attorneys at Drummond Law, PLLC with more than 20 years of passionate support in the Tulsa region. Through their philanthropic involvement, the Drummonds have facilitated the raising of millions of dollars for causes to improve quality of life and fulfill the needs of people. Wendy became involved with Emergency Infant Services in 2003 and just a year later was leading the organization's annual fundraising event to 55% larger profits than the year before, and has served as the organization's president twice. Wendy is currently the board president of Lindsey House/Transitional Living Centers of Oklahoma, is a member of the advisory board for Tulsa Ballet and a board member of the Annie Oakley Society of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Gentner is the past president of Eastern Oklahoma American Red Cross and serves vital roles with Indian Nations Council Boy Scouts of America, Tulsa Historical Society, Family Safety Council, Oklahoma Centennial Botanical Garden, and Gilcrease Museum. Wendy and Gentner are passionate supporters of Oklahoma State University, Tulsa's art scene, and the preservation of Oklahoma heritage. They raise cattle on the Pawhuska ranch established by Gentner's great-grandfather in the 1880's.

Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
Sharon King Davis

Sharon King Davis is the consummate business woman, philanthropist, volunteer, and community leader. She is partner in the King family businesses, commercial real estate such as KingsPointe Village and Kings Landing, among other ventures. A fourth-generation Tulsan, Sharon is known for her decades of service to the Tulsa community. She has held various volunteer and fundraising positions with the Tulsa Community College Foundation, The Little Light House, YWCA Tulsa, Resonance, Tulsa Boys Home, Tulsa Historical Society, Friends of the Fairgrounds, Tulsa Regional Chamber, Family & Children's Services, and Habitat for Humanity.

Outstanding Fundraising Executive
Janice Edmiston, CFRE 

Janice Edmiston, CFRE serves as Foundation Director for OSU Medical Center Managed by Mercy. A member of the Eastern Oklahoma Chapter of AFP for 30 years, Janice joined the organization within a year of its formation, and has a rich history with AFP as a professional fundraiser, chapter volunteer, educator, mentor and leader. Janice was one of the first seven fundraisers in the Tulsa region to obtain the prestigious Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation from AFP International. Janice has raised more than $25 million for Tulsa organizations throughout her career including Indian Health Care Resource Center, University of Tulsa, Children's Medical Center, Child Abuse Network, and presently OSU Medical Center Managed by Mercy.

 
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy
 Allie Beach 

Allie Beach is a 12-year old philanthropist who believes in potential of youth to make a difference. At the age of 7, Allie launched a summer camp for underprivileged children through local nonprofit YouthWorks. To bring her vision for a summer camp to fruition, Allie recruited volunteer student leaders, developed curriculum and programming, wrote grant proposals, conducted fundraisers and secured more than $40,000 to support her cause. The summer after launching the camp, Allie established the Pizza Garden, a 4,000 square foot gardening space at Wesley United Methodist Church in North Tulsa used to plant and grow vegetables to cook healthy meals for people in need, with the ultimate goal of providing ingredients for a nonprofit pizza restaurant.
