Fun Fishing Day
The Club's Fun Fishing Day will be held Saturday, October the 8th at the Pelican Rest Marina in Galveston! We are excited to host the children of the Ronald McDonald House and Shriners Children's Hospital for a morning of Fishing AND Fun!
Club volunteers will be on hand to help the kiddos bait their hooks, cast their lines and reel in their catches! Once the kiddos have had their fill of fishing, they will be treated to a BBQ lunch provided and prepared by Sean and Zena Welsh and the Cool Cookers Team. Tasty frozen treats donated by Frio's Gourmet Pops of Galveston will cool down the young anglers, families and volunteers. The Fun Fishing Day will wrap up after lunch with a trophy presentation for all of the children plus they will take home event t-shirts donated by Bealine Environmental, Wal-Mart gift cards donated by Friendly Properties of Texas and incredible gift bags filled with everyday necessities donated by Orca Assets!!
This special event is made possible by the following sponsors and donors:
Deano Merrigan and Anne Marie Stinson, Friendly Properties of Texas, HomeTown Bank N.A., Kevin and Heather Harper, Marty Griffith, Smitty's Bait Camp, W.A.D.E.

Captain's Corner
Written by Captain Kevin Deerman
Our dove season seems to be off to a great start this year. From all the reports that I've received and judging by the pictures on social media most hunters haven't had any problems with filling their bird bags so far with lots of white wing still mixed in. Will still have a close race for the top spot in the Club's annual tournament with the Reel Bounty catching a blue a couple weeks ago to put them back in first place and I would imagine that Brandon Perthuis has his crew on standby to get back out on the Chase This to try and take back the lead! Good luck to all and stay safe!

The Learning Curve
Written by Captain Troy Day
Check out this research article from Texas A&M Galveston on the findings of blue marlin satellite tagged (mostly off Texas, some off Louisiana) by the late Bill Lyons, his son Mark, and Captains John Cochrane and Brett Falterman and the rest of the crew on the Billy B from 2003-2008. Pretty cool stuff in here, with charts showing the movements of single tagged fish as well as the overall trends and concentrations month to month. It's interesting that they conclude most of the fish never leave the Gulf of Mexico. The article also shows how important what happens commercially off the West coast of Mexico is to us and our fishery.
