National Minority Health Month

April is National Minority Health Month and brings awareness about persistent health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities. During this month TDC shared information about health disparities through our social media posts.

Disability rates typically rise with age. U.S. Census Bureau data from Texas shows Hispanics start with similar disability rates to non-Hispanic whites but increase faster in older age groups.

Net Coverage Error for Young Children (Aged 0-4) in the 2020 Census, Texas

The new county-level analysis shows undercounts of young children in counties across the country but a substantial number were clustered along the West Coast, in the South, and in the Southwest, particularly in the border regions of Arizona, California, and Texas.

In Texas, the U.S. Census estimates indicate that nearly 152,000 (7.7%) of Texas children (ages 0-4) were possibly missed in the 2020 Census. 130 out of 135 counties with data available experienced child undercounts, ranging from <1% to 20%. Updates to OMB’s Race/Ethnicity Standards Mean for the Census Bureau

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) published the results of its review of Statistical Policy Directive No. 15 (SPD 15) issuing new standards for maintaining, collecting, and presenting race/ethnicity data in federal agencies. These changes aim to enhance the accuracy of U.S. Census Bureau programs by better reflecting the rich diversity and detailed identities within the population.

Census Bureau Appoints Members to New 2030 Census Advisory Committee

The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the members of its 2030 Census Advisory Committee (2030 CAC), and we're pleased to share that Angela Broyles, the founder and executive director of the Texas Census Institute has been selected to serve. This appointment is important as we prepare for the 2030 Census to ensure a complete count of our state population.
