Age Structure Differences Among Populations in Texas

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2023 Population Estimates, Texas leads the U.S. in the growth of Hispanic, Black, and Asian populations in 2023.

The graph above illustrates that the Hispanic growth is driving a younger demographic, while aging is more notable among Non-Hispanic Whites. The 2023 Census estimates were the first series to be informed by the Decennial Census data on Hispanic origin.

Texans Displaced by Natural Disasters

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts the 2024 hurricane season will be active. The U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey reports that the Houston and Dallas-Ft. Worth metro areas rank among the top 4 in the U.S. with the percent of adults who reported being displaced in the last year by a natural disaster.

2026 Census Test Site Locations Announced

The Census Bureau recently announced that a region in West Texas (namely Brewster, Jeff Davis, Pecos, and Presidio counties) has been selected as one of six national Census Test operation sites to evaluate the viability of innovations and enhancements planned for the 2030 Census. The goal for the Census Test, which will take place in 2026, will focus on improving the process to capture hard-to-count and historically undercounted populations.
