The Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce recognizes that Healthcare is key to economic development and is essential to the overall health and well-being of the Fort Smith Region. For the past thirteen years, we have held an event to recognize our Healthcare industry and the new physicians that have come to practice in the region. Sponsors and attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception honoring our new physicians and our “Physician of the Year” at our annual reception on September 14, 2023. |

Dr. Larry Price
Dr. Price is a retired physician with more than 50 years in the Healthcare Industry.
Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Price attended Washington University of Medical School in St. Louis, Missouri and came to Fort Smith after he completed his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Prior to moving to Fort Smith, Dr. Price paused completing his residency for two years by his commitment to the Army (Fort Still and Vietnam).
He not only excelled for years in his internal medicine practice, but also thrived as a teacher shaping the lives of students at the Area Health Education Center (AHEC), and later UAMS West. Dr. Price was the Executive Director of AHEC in the 1970’s, and eventually retired from UAMS West in 2008. Dr. Price has helped an untold number of patients throughout his career in internal medicine. He has also passed on his wisdom to numerous doctors-in-training.
After retiring in 2008, Dr. Price has continued to serve the community that he loves by volunteering his time and expertise at the Good Samaritan Clinic.
While he loves practicing medicine, his faith and family are even more important to him. He cherished his late wife Ruth Anne, and is incredibly proud of their three children Cheryl, David, and Janet. Dr. Price also has 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
It is with this strong leadership and positive impact on the Healthcare Industry and the lives of the residents in the Fort Smith Region that Dr. Lawrence Price was selected as the 2023 Physician of the Year award winner!

JLCA Business & Finance Session
This month at the Junior Leadership & Career Academy (JLCA), our 39 young leaders learned about the world of business and finance. Thank you to Chambers Bank for sponsoring this session!
The day began with a tour of First National Bank, where our students learned about their 150-year history. They got to see the original vault which weighs 30 tons and held counterfeit money! They learned about the various departments and the critical role banks play in our economy.
Following the bank tour, we walked over to the historic Bakery District. What once started as the Shipley Baking Company in 1921, is now a vibrant downtown hub. During the tour, students got to see local businesses, event rental spaces, and the new co-working space—The Mill. They had a great time grabbing some local coffee and ice cream, as well as seeing the bookstore cat!
Next, the students learned how to create a business plan. In teams, they worked to develop innovative business ideas and then delivered 1-minute pitches to the group. Later in the day, we were privileged to hear from the owners of Fort Smith Coffee Co. and True Grit Running Co. These entrepreneurs shared their personal journeys, revealing the highs and lows of owning and managing their own businesses. Their stories served as a reminder that passion and perseverance are essential for success.
The day concluded with a panel discussion featuring professionals from various fields within business and finance. Our students had the chance to explore a wide range of career possibilities in these industries.
Thank you to the speakers, tour guides, volunteers, and generous sponsors who made this day possible!
