Hello Marianna,

Happy Easter and Happy Passover!

Let’s start with some fun stuff.  With the summer approaching, it's time to dust off those suitcases and start planning (if you haven't done so yet) for your next adventure!  As you all know, I love to travel and wanted to share one particularly useful tip.

  • Text your flight number (to someone or to yourself) on an iPhone. It will send you a link that will show where your plane is, the current gate number, expected flight duration and your baggage claim carousel. The link is helpful because if your gate changes, it will automatically change in that link too. Ha!

On a financial note, April is Financial Literacy month and sharing personal finance tips is one of my favorite parts of what we do here at CURO!

Did you know? Pennsylvania recently became one of 25 states to require high school students to complete a course in personal financial literacy to graduate! We are thrilled to share this information and will work with the local high schools to share our beginners financial advice + to introduce the next generation to the financial planning profession.

As a final reminder, please make sure you’ve filed your 2023 Tax Return (or requested an extension) by April 15th, 2024. Keep in mind that paying your tax bill online is the best way to ensure the IRS receives your money on time. (Pro Tip: This also helps you to maintain control of the timing for your payment.) Sending a personal check to the IRS extends the processing time and doesn’t guarantee when the funds will be pulled from your account.

Finally, in CURO news, we will be hosting our annual FREE Community Shredding Event on Saturday, May 5th, 2024, from 10 AM – 1PM at our office!

All are welcome to drive-up and drop-off any documents that must be securely destroyed.

  • Tax Returns and Forms
  • Bills and Credit Card statements
  • Any documents with your personal information (SSN, Address, Account Numbers, etc.)

At this event, we’ll also be collecting donations for Unite for Her, one of the non-profit organizations we support.  Unite for Her helps “every person with breast and ovarian cancers feel the support of a loving community” by giving them access to comprehensive education, services, and tools to enrich their health and well-being.

I hope you have a wonderful Spring full of laughter, family gatherings, and planning for summer adventures! Don’t forget to send photos from your adventures to info@curowm.com to be featured on our Dream Wall!

Until next time, wishing you health, wealth, and happiness.

How to Freeze Your Credit

A credit freeze, or security freeze, keeps the sensitive data in your credit files from being accessed without your consent. A credit freeze is one major way to help prevent identity theft and fraud, even if a criminal has key information such as your birthdate and Social Security number. Freezing your credit is free and won't harm your credit.

Electing My Beneficiaries: What should I consider?

The decision of choosing a beneficiary for your traditional IRA or retirement plan should be carefully considered based on your individual circumstances, tax planning goals, and the financial well-being of your beneficiaries.

Insights From Our CIO: Market Thoughts

April 2024

Brad McMillan, Commonwealth’s CIO, recaps March’s market and economic news. U.S. and developed markets set new price records on economic and earnings growth, but fixed income lagged as interest rates rose during the quarter. Income, spending, and business investment stayed positive, but headline and core inflation remained above the Fed’s target levels. Will markets continue adjusting rate hike expectations to limit future volatility? Stay tuned to find out, and follow Brad at blog.commonwealth.com/independent-market-observer
