Maker Space Survey
A Maker Space is a collaborative space where anyone can pay a modest monthly membership fee and schedule the use of equipment they ordinarily couldn't afford. It can be a place where one can work on the equipment either for profit, just for fun, or to learn a skill they otherwise wouldn't be able to develop. The Maker Space that the Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation is contemplating will contain woodworking equipment (such as a Jet Wood lathe), metalworking (such as an Acu-Rite Milling Machine), laser cutting equipment (such as a PT-44VH plasma table), a 3-D printer for prototyping, and even commercial sewing machines, a serger and a quilting machine. Classes will be held on how to safely operate these machines, how to use them to start or launch a business, how to train yourself for a better job using machines like this for practice, or just to make your own furniture, etc. The EDC plans to host periodic "craft fairs" to sell products made by members, have robot competitions, and perhaps provide use at no cost for Boy Scouts working on pinewood derby, etc. These spaces are popping up all over the country in communities both large and small.
Our community needs your help to make this happen. We must receive approval for the grant in order to make this a reality. If you share this vision, or think you might want to be a member, please complete the survey below in this newsletter, which will aide in the grant application. Become a "Mad City Maker" and join the movement!
