Memorial Day weekend jets into Miami Beach this year with the return of the popular Hyundai Air & Sea Show on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26.

In preparation for the holiday weekend, the city has been planning diligently to implement a comprehensive and coordinated plan to ensure residents and visitors are able to enjoy the beach and various events, while maintaining safety and resident quality of life.

Hyundai Air & Sea Show

The Hyundai Air & Sea Show® is not just an event; it's an experience. As one of the largest gatherings of military equipment in the country, attendees will be treated to a spectacle of epic proportions. From United States military aerial demonstrations, cigarette offshore powerboat racing exhibitions, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Drug Interdiction exercises and military parachute team demonstrations, there's something for everyone at this family-friendly event.

There is no ticketed area this year. Public viewing of the show can also be enjoyed between 1 and 21 streets.

Florida Power & Light Patriot Display Village

Free to the public and spanning five city blocks, the Florida Power & Light Patriot Display Village showcases the five branches of the Armed Forces with interactive military equipment — tanks, helicopters, rifle range, tactical gear, and simulators as well as corporate activations, an Action Zone, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Kids Zone, extreme sports, music, the Mission BBQ food court and more. The FPL Patriot Display Village is visited by over 25,000 patrons each day.

Hyundai Air & Sea Show Action Zone

Located alongside Ocean Drive between 11 and 14 streets, the Action Zone is a part of the Florida Power & Light Patriot Display Village that showcases one-of-a-kind, action-packed motocross performances by Monster Energy Motocross featuring Keith Sayer’s FMX (freestyle motocross) demonstration team.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Kids Zone

The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Kids Zone is located in the Florida Power & Light Patriot Display Village where kids of all ages will find a stay fit, aviation-themed fun zone with a rock climbing wall, F-18 photo opportunity, bungee jumping, inflatables, paintless paintball area and much more!

Music Explosion presented by Hyundai: Free to the Public

Groove to beats by DJ Alex, rock out with the U.S. Army's As You Were band and be swept away by the patriotic melodies of The Miami Beach Classical Music Festival Orchestra. As the sun sets, witness a mesmerizing 3D mapping projection by the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival — a collaboration between the Hyundai Air & Sea Show and the Ocean Drive Association — on 14 Street and Ocean Drive where iconic buildings will be transformed into a canvas of patriotic imagery between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Then, brace yourself for an adrenaline-filled spectacle as the U.S. Army Golden Knights light up the night sky with a thrilling pyro parachute jump culminating in the awe-inspiring Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Fireworks Extravaganza.

City of Miami Beach K.I.D.S. (Kid ID Station) 

Miami Beach Police personnel will host a wristband ID program for children of all ages and/or adults with special needs. This free program aims to give parents, guardians and caretakers greater peace of mind. Children and adults with special needs will receive a free ID wristband with their name, guardian’s name and contact information. The stations will be located in City of Miami Beach tents staffed by Goodwill Ambassadors who will maintain spreadsheets with the names of each registered child or adult. The K.I.D.S. program is open to both visitors and residents.

Memorial Day Commemoration at Miami Beach Police Headquarters

The City of Miami Beach, in partnership with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars 3559 Miami Beach Post, pays tribute to the memory of the men and women who fought and died for freedom with a wreath-laying ceremony and 21-gun salute this Memorial Day. The ceremony will take place at the War Memorial Cenotaph in front of Miami Beach Police Headquarters.

A traffic mitigation plan will be implemented on Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27 beginning at 6 a.m. Traffic will only be allowed to enter Ocean Drive through 13 Street and exit through 5 Street, with no access to any other entry/exit points. On Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26 starting at 6 p.m. each evening, Collins and Washington avenues will flow north and southbound, with no east or westbound access except at 5 Street and 16 Street. 

Protected residential zones for the Flamingo Park and South of Fifth neighborhoods will be in place each evening from 6 p.m. through 5 a.m. starting on Thursday, May 23 through Sunday, May 26 with barricades in place to restrict cut-through traffic in these residential areas. Flamingo Park and South of Fifth residents are encouraged to use Alton Road to enter and exit their neighborhood. There will be enhanced police presence in other surrounding neighborhoods. 

Beginning Friday through Sunday evenings at 8 p.m., a traffic mitigation plan will be in place along the 5 Street corridor starting at the east bridge of the MacArthur Causeway and on the Julia Tuttle Causeway. To safely coordinate this effort, there will be a single-lane reduction on both corridors starting at 8 p.m. each evening. In addition, the Police Department will utilize and deploy fixed and mobile License Plate Readers (LPRs) throughout the city.

Additionally, the city’s traffic monitoring and management contractor will monitor major thoroughfares to detect incidents creating congestion based on available resources and equipment, including existing closed-circuit television and portable cameras in the city, the WAZE mobile application, portable variable message signs for traffic/event messaging, and modifications to traffic signal timing as needed to manage congestion. Traffic Monitors will operate 14 hours a day, from 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. from May 24 - 26.

During hours when the traffic mitigation plan is in place, the Miami Beach trolley and Miami-Dade County transit services will operate normally. The Transit App will be updated as needed to reflect service changes and important updates.

Effective Friday, May 24 at 7 a.m. through Monday, May 27 at 9 p.m., a high-impact flat parking rate of $30 per vehicle for nonresidents and $15 for residents will be imposed at all City parking garages in the Entertainment District. This includes parking garages at 7 Street and Collins Avenue, 12 Street and Washington Avenue, 13 Street and Collins Avenue as well as the Anchor Garage on 16 Street. Beginning at 9 p.m., entrance to these garages will be limited only to residents, employees of Miami Beach businesses with proof of employment and access cardholders.

On-street parking will be prohibited along Collins Avenue between 5 Street and Española Way commencing on Thursday, May 23 at 11 p.m. through Monday, May 27 at 6 a.m. Additionally, the 100 and 200 blocks between 6 Street and Española Way will be restricted to only Residential Zone 5 permit holders between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. on May 24 - 26. The parking lot on the northwest corner of 10 Street and Washington Avenue (P13) will be unavailable from Thursday evening starting at 11 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m.

There are numerous ways to get around Miami Beach on public transportation once you arrive, including free Miami Beach trolleys and Citi Bike.

Free Parking Shuttles

The city will provide free shuttle service to and from four designated event parking garage locations. Please look for the special parking shuttle identification signs prior to boarding. Parking shuttles will operate on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at intervals of approximately 15 minutes.

Designated shuttle pickup and drop-off locations are as follows: 

• 42 Street garage: shuttle bus will serve trolley stop #219 at Sheridan Avenue and 41 Street.  
• 23 Street garage: shuttle bus will serve trolley stop #194 at 23 Street and Liberty Avenue.
• 17 Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and the City Hall garages: shuttle bus will serve trolley stop #200 at 17 Street and Convention Center Drive.
• 5 Street garage: Freebee shuttle will serve trolley stop #113 at 6 Street and Lenox Avenue.

All passengers using the free shuttle service will be dropped off at trolley stop #106 located on the west side of Washington Avenue between 11 and 12 streets. Passengers should use this stop for their ride back to garages. Alternatively, passengers can use the free citywide trolley service.

Miami Beach Police will be working 13-hour shifts with an Alpha/Bravo staffing configuration. Several local, state and federal law enforcement partners will be assisting MBPD with public safety, including, but not limited to, the Florida Highway Patrol, Miami-Dade County Police and Miami-Dade Schools Police. Miami Beach Fire, Ocean Rescue, Code Compliance, Parking, Public Works, Sanitation, and Parks and Recreation will also have significantly enhanced staffing throughout the weekend. 

Goodwill Ambassadors wearing branded pink T-shirts will be positioned throughout the Entertainment District to answer visitor questions while serving as liaisons to the Police Department. 

High-Impact and Other Measures

The following high-impact measures will be in effect at 7 a.m. Friday, May 24 through 9 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2024 within the designated high-impact zone including along the public beach; the MXE mixed used entertainment district (excluding that portion of the MXE district between 73 and 75 streets) and that portion of the CD-2 commercial, medium-intensity district between Pennsylvania Avenue and Collins Court from 5 to 16 streets: 

• Local access restrictions will be enforced on some city streets to limit traffic routes and improve mobility for residents and business patrons.

• The issuance of business tax receipts will be suspended to promoters of any dance or entertainment events to be held at alcoholic beverage establishments in the MXE and CD-2 districts.

• Flat parking rate of $30 for non-residents and $15 for residents.

• The suspension and closure of business entities renting or leasing certain vehicles — including golf carts, low-speed vehicles, autocycles, motorized scooters, mopeds, motorcycles powered by motors of 50cc or less and motorized bicycles during the aforementioned timeframe.

The following additional high-impact and other measures may be imposed as necessary:

• Coolers, inflatable devices, tents, tables and similar objects may be prohibited on public beaches.

• The suspension and closure of all or part of sidewalk café operations located in the MXE (excluding that portion of the MXE district between 73 and 75 streets) and CD-2 districts each night (including the removal of any sidewalk café furniture).
