Follow Up on Continuing Discussions with NYC Council Members, DOT and Motorcoach Industry
The NYC Council Committee on Transportation met Thursday, October 26th regarding bus safety measures in response to recent NYC area bus accidents. Present at the discussion were representatives of city government (DOT, NYPD, Sheriff's office, and others) as well as members of community boards, interest groups and bus state associations, including representatives from our Association.
The Council members recognize that although the City's authority is limited, they are able to regulate permitted stops, drop-offs, idling, traffic violations, etc. The city's support and increased oversight in those areas might be used to improve safety. The Council members also seemed to recognize the difference between companies that operate responsibly and the bad actors. There were several ideas shared, including that the renewal process for permitted spots may include a check of the bus company's safety record and history of summonses.
At this point, it is only a discussion, however, we will continue to monitor this activity closely.

November is the time to be thankful
,
a time to remember
and to embrace
those who
enrich our lives. This month,
in which Americans traditionally pause to give thanks for our blessings, it is fitting that we come together to honor with gratitude our extraordinary veterans and military families and their service to our country.
President Trump proclaimed this month as National Veterans and Military Families Month. Click here for proclamation.
The Greater New Jersey Motorcoach Association wishes you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving and gives thanks to our veterans!
