Economic Development is the intentional practice of improving a community’s economic well-being and quality of life. VGR is partnering with the Virginia Economic Developers Association (VEDA) to highlight Economic Development Week (May 6-10, 2024) to promote just what economic developers do and why they do it.
Economic developers strive to promote and raise awareness for local job creation programs, advance career development opportunities, and improve communities. Economic Development Week celebrates the positive contributions economic development makes to localities and regions across the Commonwealth.
Now in its ninth year, National Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), to recognize the unique role that economic development has in creating vibrant communities with strong economies. Communities throughout the United States and Canada have recognized the week through official proclamations, local community events, and informational campaigns online and through social media.
