Today, technology advancements move at the speed of light. Finding a new computer system for your nonprofit can often seem like a daunting task, especially because these technology advancements can often be quite expensive.

Tulsa Community Foundation recognized the need nonprofits had for technology advancements so it created 501technet, which provides donor subsidized or partner-discounted technology services and products to eligible nonprofits.

In this Tulsa World Article, Mark Whitmire, technologies service director for 501technet explains, ""We can take a 4-year-old PC, refurbish it and charge a nonprofit $80. The market rate for the same computer is $225. Before us, that's what nonprofits would have paid."

Whitmire goes on to say, "People in nonprofits are people of heart and passion and want to spend their dollars on their mission. There is dependence between that mission and technology. Our mission is capacity, and technology is the vehicle for accomplishing that."

As of August 2014, 501technet provided support to 1,633 computers at 45 organizations in 77 locations and has worked with more than 130 nonprofits.

Gerri Inman, J.D.

Gerri Inman, J.D.

Gerri A. Inman, J.D., has been the Executive Director of South Tulsa Community House [STCH] for over a year and is a new member to our chapter as of November, 2014. Gerri describes herself as a school "junkie". She has had careers as wholesale nurseryman/master gardener, medical technologist, and CPA primarily in the oil and gas industry. She is a graduate of Langston University at Tulsa and holds a Bachelors in Business Administration/Accounting. After practicing for a few years, she then went to the University of Tulsa College of Law, gained her J.D. in 1995, and practiced for over 17 years.

Even with this background and experience, Gerri found herself in poverty and homeless approximately 4 years ago due to chronic physical and mental health issues. For the first time in her life, she needed assistance with just the basic necessities of life. A friend suggested that she volunteer at STCH, which serves the 61st and S. Peoria area. After her first day she was hooked and felt like she had found her true passion in life. After volunteering for 6 � months, Gerri applied for and was hired as the new Executive Director.   Although STCH had been around for some 20 years, it had always been a part-time social service agency only serving approximately 200 - 300 individuals per month. After much outreach to area apartments, the two elementary schools in the area, as well as just walking and talking with neighbors, STCH started regularly serving 600-700 per month within 6 months of beginning her job. Gerri also added more services based upon neighbor's needs. After being in a 1500 sq. ft. store front space for several years, a new 8,000 square foot facility was purchased just across the street in June, 2014, with move-in completed in December, 2014. Gerri was responsible for gaining over $50,000 in grants her first year on board, assisted in gaining over $400,000 in grants, as well as many new partnerships, many of whom have office space in the new facility, including Emergency Infant Services, free GED classes through Union Public Schools, a case manager from Restore Hope as well as a new computer center where there is one on one assistance in job searching and resume writing.

In her spare time, Gerri loves playing with her twin granddaughters, reading and watching movies as well as making fancy cakes for birthdays and other special occasions.
