THE SHORTCOMINGS OF NEBRASKA'S EPIC OPTION

This month, the Tax Foundation released an economic study titled “The Shortcomings of Nebraska’s EPIC Option.” The study found that the EPIC plan would require a statewide consumption tax rate of 21.6% or more.

No New Taxes Nebraska launched with a press conference on March 14^th. During the press conference, NE REALTORS® State President Arla Meyer spoke on the devastating impact the EPIC Option Consumption Tax Plan would have on housing in Nebraska if approved. Nebraskans will be forced to pay an estimated 22% more for a new house – making it nearly impossible for working families to own a home. Renters will have to pay a sales tax on monthly rental payments. The 22% tax will apply to building materials and essential home repairs for plumbing and electricity.
