conferenceWF&FSA CONFERENCE PACKS IN ANOTHER RECORD-BREAKING CROWD!

The numbers speak for themselves....762....another record-breaking crowd descended upon the Trump Doral for the 2014 WF&FSA Distribution Conference. Take a look at attendance history since the new format was unveiled for this annual conference: 2010 - 594; 2011 - 622; 2012 - 711; 2013 - 752; and 2014 - 762.

Not only do the numbers speak for themselves, but the attendees do too:

  • Exciting to see the faces of those I have done business with for years! I sat down at my desk Monday morning refreshed and ready to implement many of the points I learned at the sessions.
  • It was such an impact to be able to interact with all levels of the Floral Industry in one location. Absolutely invaluable!
  • WF&FSA is not only the way we connect each other, but for me is the chance to learn more, know more about my customers, and realize these 2 things never end.
  • The WF&FSA distribution conference is a great venue to create new relationships with current and new vendors. Also it is a great place to network with other wholesalers that are not in your market. The association has real value to your day to day operations to make it beneficial for any size wholesaler to attend.
  • Great opportunity to visit with the wholesalers that are the movers and shakers of the industry. Very timely educational sessions that reinforces and reminds every aspect of the distribution channel with ideas for improvement & success. Excellent exposure for owners, managers and all buyers.
  • The WF&FSA Conference is a must for any wholesaler looking to grow their business. The contacts and insights gained pay for the entire cost to attend over and over throughout the year.
  • Networking with peers and customers at WF&FSA always proves so valuable. It is an informal, non-stress, non-agenda setting that allows for creative and thought provoking dialogue. I am never disappointed.

These are just some of the comments submitted in the evaluation of the meeting. Be sure to mark your calendars now for the 2015 Conference, scheduled for October 21-23 at the Trump National Doral!

In addition to the wide array of exhibits, the educational content was packed with great ideas shared by the buyers' panel, the retail panel, Kevin Ylvisaker with his design trends forecast and retailer survey and David Daneshgar of BloomNation shared his vision for helping retailers and wholesalers alike and more! Watch the WF&FSA website later for copies of the presentations. We will let you know when they are posted.

ilkGARY DORAN RECOGNIZED WITH THE 2014 LTK AWARD

Gary Doran was awarded the 2014 Leland T. Kintzele Award on Thursday, October 23, in Miami. Not one, but two standing ovations greeted the news! The Leland T. Kintzele Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor given annually by the Wholesale Florist & Florist Supplier Association. The LTK Award is presented each year to one individual who meets three criteria:

  • Demonstrated dedication, ability and initiative to a degree that sets him or her apart from contemporaries

  • Distinguished service that exemplifies the integrity, fairness, perseverance and decisiveness of Leland T. Kintzele, president of WF&FSA from 1963 to 1966.

Gary exemplifies the intent of the award and was lauded for his leadership and his creation of the new format for the WF&FSA Conference which is credited for renewed enthusiasm and growth in WF&FSA over the past five years. marketingMARKETING TOOLKIT HIGHLIGHT: EMAIL VS. PRINT

Here is another in a series of tips from the WF&FSA Marketing Toolkit.  Share this information with your customers and use it internally!

A wise old man once said..."motion is 2/3 of promotion"... When surveyed, several floral distributors stated running a "flyer" will increase customer awareness, and therefore sales by 20-25% for the items promoted on the flyer.

Normally, although not always, a discount is given as an incentive for customers to purchase the product on the flyer. Given that a discount is given, margins drop, and after you add the cost of the printed promotional material, chances are you haven't made a dime.

There are several ways to publish and distribute a promotional brochure, either online or in a traditional printed piece. Both have advantages and disadvantages to consider.  To read more click here. Just sign in and your copy will be electronically delivered to you!

safSAF "STATE OF THE INDUSTRY" TALK OFFERS PERSPECTIVE ON CONSUMERS, ECONOMY AND INDUSTRY

You already know that consumers shop differently than they did 10 or even five years ago - but have you considered how the widening of the Panama Canal will affect your business? How failing infrastructure could hurt flower sourcing and delivery? What the baby boom of 2007 could mean for your shop?

These were some of the big-picture issues raised during the Society of American Florists' biannual State of the Industry address presented at SAF Marco Island 2014, SAF's 130th Annual Convention in August, by SAF CEO Peter Moran and SAF Chairman Robert Williams II, AAF, PFCI, vice president of strategic business development for the North American floral group at the Smithers-Oasis Company. For many attendees, the address is a singular opportunity to step away from the day-to-day grind and consider big questions and challenges about the overall floral industry, consumer behavior and the U.S. and global economies.
