ChildSavers Turns 100

ChildSavers was established in 1924 as the Children’s Memorial Clinic in memory of Dr. McGuire Newton, one of Richmond’s first pediatricians. This new, innovative agency was created, “for the purpose of giving complete physical and mental examinations, free of charge, to all children who may need the same.”

Today, we are focused on improving access to quality child care and children’s mental health in the Greater Richmond area - two of the most critical issues our communities face.

Learn how and why we started 100 years ago!

As we look ahead to celebrate this incredible milestone, we invite all to our clinic on Saturday, October 12th for a neighborhood Block Party from 12pm-5pm.

We welcome all clients, child care providers, community groups, friends, and supporters of ChildSavers to join together in one celebration at this free, non-ticketed event. There will be music, food trucks, and plenty of family-friendly activities and games!

Donor Spotlight:

United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg

For decades, United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg has been a generous supporter of our trauma-informed Mental Health Services (MHS), aligning with their mission to build strong, equitable communities where everyone can thrive.

This funding directly supports our five MHS programs: Immediate Response, Outpatient Services, School-Based Services, Caregiver Services, and Psychiatric Services. These programs focus on establishing safety, healing after trauma, forming healthy attachments, developing emotional regulation skills, and identifying resources for our clients and their families.

United Way has also kindly worked with their partners to pack and donate Snack Packs for our clients to take home after their therapy sessions.

If you’ve stopped by our clinic, you’ll also notice the Little Free Library that United Way built and installed on the corner of 22nd and Grace Street to provide easy access to books for children in the community—which their volunteers regularly restock.

We believe that all children can be safe, happy, healthy, and ready to learn. We couldn’t do this critical work to support children’s resiliency and support child care providers without generous funding from our community partners like United Way.

Thank you!

Congratulations to Ms. Pam!

The Virginia Health Care Foundation has named Pamela Jackson a Virginia Mental Health Champion for 2024! This award honors individuals who go above and beyond to improve the mental health and wellbeing for those we serve. To see the full list of this years champions, click here.

Pam joined our agency in 1998 playing a critical role in our agency. She is the first person our clients and families interact with when they enter our doors. Her presence radiates kindness, empathy, and inclusivity--instantly putting visitors at ease and imparting a sense of belonging and community.

Our success as a mental health and child development services team is dependent on her warmth, hospitality, and reliability to get any job done. Pam is truly deserving of recognition for over 25 years of dedicated hard work. Thank you, Ms. Pam!
