Ice Cream Social:
Save the Date & Call for Volunteers
| |
|
Amberley Village Ice Cream Social returns on August 20, 2023 for residents and neighboring communities of Amberley Village. This year, we're seeking volunteers to assist with kids crafts, food and drink distribution, as well as greeters and general "as needed" roles. The event also features public safety displays and information, hands-on opportunities to go "behind the scenes" with public safety personnel and equipment, and the popular fire hose spray on the tennis courts for the kids!
If you are interested in assisting with this year's Ice Cream Social, or are able to support this community event with sponsorship or in-kind donations, please contact Tammy Reasoner at 513-531-8675 or tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org.
Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to join us at the Municipal Building for this "can't miss" summer event!

Electric Aggregation Update
|
Residents will be receiving an aggregation letter in the mail over the next few weeks. Beginning with August 2023 meter read dates through August 2025 meter read dates, Amberley Village will receive its electricity service from Energy Harbor. Under advisement from the Village Aggregation broker, AGE, Energy Harbor was identified as having the most competitive rates for the period, at 7.22 cents per kWh vs. the current 10.17 cents per kWh from Duke Energy. Duke has been warning customers of a rate increase since early spring, and Amberley Village has actively sought the best path for our residents.
Residents are reminded that the Amberley Village Aggregation Program is an opt-out program, meaning residents already enrolled in the program need do nothing to continue on the program.

About Juneteenth: June 19
|
|
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in the United States, observed every year on June 19, which is the day the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas in 1865.
This day soon became known as “Juneteenth,” a verbal shorthand for June 19. Slavery in the United States would be formally abolished with the ratification of the 13th Amendment on December 6, 1865. The holiday was first recognized as a national holiday in 2021, when President Joe Biden signed legislation establishing it as such.

Multijurisdictional Salt Conveyor
Saves Village Thousands
| |
|
Amberley Village recently shared in the purchase of a salt conveyor for the delivery of rock salt to the Village salt barn. And while June might seem a bit early to be thinking about rock salt, Village Maintenance must plan ahead to get the best price to treat the roads during winter storm events. But the cost of the salt alone doesn't account for the cost. Transporting it can also be an expensive endeavor.
As part of its commitment to innovative cost-saving measures, Amberley Village entered into an agreement with Anderson Township, the City of Madeira, Miami Township, the City of Springdale, Sycamore Township, Symmes Township and Deerfield Township to purchase the shared salt conveyor at a cost savings of nearly $70,000. The conveyor, which is only needed by each municipality once or twice a year, ensures that salt can be moved and stored when needed without additional cost to the Village. Thanks to our Maintenance Team for coordinating and executing this project with our residents in mind!

Maintenance Personnel Update
And speaking of our fantastic Maintenance Crew, Amberley Village invites you to join us in congratulating Maintenance Supervisor Tony Chesney on his recent retirement after 34 years of service. Tony leaves the Village in capable hands, with Ryan Monahan taking over the Maintenance Supervisor position after 26 years of service. Rob Langdon will fill the Maintenance Foreman position (vacated by Monahan's promotion) with 18 years of service to the Village. By prioritizing succession planning, Amberley Village minimizes costs by retaining employees, which results in greater continuity of service, job satisfaction and quality of work!

Bike Safety Fair a Huge Success!
|
|
The Annual Bike Safety event, held on June 4, went extremely well and enjoyed an excellent turnout. Amberley Village Police Department and volunteers, under the direction of Police Officer Andrea Alt, distributed and fitted roughly 60 helmets to children, courtesy of Cincinnati Children's Hospital. A brand new bicycle was raffled off, and staff and volunteers made safety adjustments and put air into tires on children’s bikes. In addition, Safe Cincinnati attended and handed out safety information.
Thanks to all who participated, volunteered and donated to make this event a huge success!

Amberley Village Mayor Tom Muething and members of the Environmental Stewardship Committee recently hosted Cincinnati Nature Center's Cory Christopher and Lindsey Best for a unique opportunity to learn about the trees at Amberley Green.
An early evening nature walk was held on Thursday, May 25 at Amberley Green. During the walk, residents learned about the variety of trees living on Amberley Green, as well as details about an upcoming Amberley Green Prairie Garden, which was recently funded by a $15,000 grant from Hamilton County Public Health. Mayor Muething headed up the grant application and coordinated with Cincinnati Nature Center to develop plans for the project.
The Amberley Green Prairie Garden will involve reclamation of a portion of Amberley Green to cultivate a native prairie with abundant flowering species that support a robust native pollinator community. Recommendations also include a new prairie trail, as well as four seating areas that could be used for the planting of memorial trees. Check out images and short video clips from this unique Amberley Green Nature Walk below!

Our June banner (pictured above) reminds residents and motorists in the Village to buckle their seatbelts or risk being ticketed. New laws regarding cell phone use while driving will be emphasized in coming months, as the probationary period for the new law gives way to ticketing this coming fall.

One Stop Drop Serves 404 Cars This Year
Thanks to all who participated!
| |
|
The Amberley Village Environmental Stewardship Committee enjoyed a cooperative weather day on May 7, when more than 400 cars were served between noon and 3 p.m. Representatives from Cohen, Goodwill, Royal Document Destruction and many public officials and volunteers were on hand to assist residents and guests dispose of unwanted electronics, household items and paper in an environmentally friendly manner.
Totals collected during this year's event included 14,435 pounds of electronics, 13,500 pounds of paper and 5,500 pounds of household items and clothing. All of these items are counted in the Village diversion rates (items diverted from landfill), which contribute to funds awarded to the Village by Hamilton County R3source each year.
Thanks to all who participated in this year's event by participating, volunteering or simply spreading the word. Special thanks to Kathie Kraemer, Pete Duffy and members of the Environmental Stewardship Committee for their continued leadership of the event!

Amberley Village Hosts 50th Anniversary of Hamilton County Police Association SWAT
|
Amberley Village recently hosted an anniversary celebration commemorating 50 years of the Hamilton County Police Association (HCPA) SWAT team. As President of HCPA, Chief Rich Wallace was instrumental in setting up the recognition, which included all current and past officers of the SWAT team (pictured above). Amberley Village Officer John Burton currently serves as an active member of the SWAT team, and Sergeant Mike Koenig formerly served on SWAT for eight years.
SWAT, which stands for Special Weapons and Tactics, is a team of law enforcement officers who are equipped with specialized skills, equipment and tactics. Formed by HCPA 50 years ago this year, the HCPA SWAT team provides reinforcement and services to communities throughout Hamilton County, thereby strengthening collaboration and resources for law enforcement agencies. HCPA SWAT Team was established in 1973 and is one of the oldest serving multi-jurisdictional teams in the United States. Congratulations Hamilton County SWAT!
