The Learning Curve
Written by Captain Troy Day
With the Texas tournament series upon us, let's look at the video release rules for the tournaments. It's not much fun to have a great 2 days of fishing only to have a fish not count because of bad video. For Poco, the Shootout, Bastante and Legends, the rules are fairly simple as they are all uniform, although a little tighter than the tournaments in the eastern gulf. Show the angler fighting the fish, object of the day, species, wireman grabbing the leader, leader being cut or hook being removed, fish swimming away, and the time/date stamp. If the hook pulls on the wire, the fish still counts as long as the species is identifiable. Where the difficulty comes in is if the wireman dumps leader, everything basically restarts from zero video-wise. If the fish then gets off before you get the leader again, it will not count. To keep from having time and date stamp issues on the camera, after the fish is released, clearly go and show an iPhone or the GPS showing time and date. Get footage with 2 cameras, and don't turn the camera off until the iPhone or GPS have been shown!
The TBC has the same rules with the exception of the requirement of showing leader being cut/hook removed, and fish swimming away. So in the TBC, once you get the wire, the fish counts.
Look forward to seeing everyone over the next couple months, good luck out there!
