State of Health in Oklahoma
 
Join Jan Figart, DHA, RN, as she discusses health and healthcare in Oklahoma. The social and economic conditions of poor health drive up the cost of care for all, and make us a state too unhealthy to educate our children and become more economically sound. What will it take to make a difference?
Jan Figart, DHA, RN

Jan Figart, DHA, RN, is the Associate Director and Senior Planner in Maternal and Child Health at the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa, Inc. This role includes the development of community collaboratives, staff support for coalitions, program development, grant writing, program evaluation and analysis of community trends.
 
Ms. Figart's career of 40 years includes an associate degree from Tulsa Community College, a bachelor degree from Langston University, a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma, and a doctorate from the University of Phoenix in health administration. Her focus has always been on nursing. However, her education goals led her to diverse opportunities in her career as educator at Rogers State University and the University of Phoenix, administrator with Northeast Oklahoma Area Health Education Center and the Margaret Hudson Program, and finally, as analyst and advocate with the Community Service Council.

In the last fifteen years, Ms. Figart has focused her energies on children's issues in the Tulsa community. She has provided leadership to the Tulsa Healthy State Initiative, early childhood initiatives, and services for the uninsured.

Ms. Figart's accomplishments have been acknowledged by Sigma Theta Tau, Zeta Delta Chapter with a Nursing Leadership Award; Tulsa Community College with a Best of TCC Alumni Award; University of Phoenix with the Faculty of the Year Award; and the American Red Cross Humanitarian Award.

Our 2015 Chapter President, Tom Taylor II 

 

Tom is the Executive Director &CEO of Emergency Infant

Services, Inc. (EIS) serving the greater Tulsa area for infants

Tom Taylor II

and toddlers in need of formula, diapers, food and clothing in crisis situations for over 38 years. EIS has 2 full-service locations and starting this year will open a formula and diaper only part-time location in South Tulsa. Tom moved to Tulsa in October 2011 to take on his position at EIS and is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Tulsa. He teaches non-profit management & marketing to TU undergrads. Tom is an alum of Leadership Oklahoma City's Class 29 and al alum of Leadership Tulsa's Class 48. He has also served on Leadership Tulsa's Flagship Committee. Tom earned his MBA from Oklahoma City University (O.C.U.) in 2000 and enjoys travel, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Many fundraisers, whether professional, paid staff, or volunteers such as board members say that "the ask" is the most difficult and intimidating process of raising money for a cause. Jerold Panas' book Asking: A 59-Minute Guide to Everything Board Members, Volunteers, and Staff Must Know to Secure the Gift is a tool to help alleviate that stress. In the book, Panas states that every gift solicitation should be done with empathy, energy, and enthusiasm in order to get the donor excited about the cause, while at the same time showing the donor you care about his or her needs and motivations. Known for being a literal 59-minute read, this resource is also practical for busy fundraisers.
